Prayer For Help To Be Loving During The Pandemic Even When it's Not Convenient
Monday March 23, 2020
What will it take for all of us to stay home and practice social distancing? How many lives will need to be lost before it matters to each one of us to do our part? Let's pray today for each of us to do the right thing and love our neighbour as we love ourself.
Heavenly Father, You loved us so much and wanted us to have life so much that You sent Jesus into the world to become sin for us so we could be right with You. Before we cared about You, about loving ourselves or loving others, You demonstrated love to us. You did more than allow Yourself to be inconvenienced for a few weeks. You gave Your life for us so we could have life in loving relationship with You forever.
Today, we ask that You will help all of us respond to Your great sacrifice for us by being willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort and convenience for the sake of others. Young or old, rich or poor, able or disabled, help us to do ALL we can for the sake of all. Forgive us if we're the ones who were more interested in having a nice time with our friends than in making sure others don't get infected, seriously ill, and even die. Forgive us if we've purchased more than we need at the expense of others who now cannot get what they need because store shelves are empty. Forgive us for angry judgmental reactions to the shortcomings of others. Just because our own shortcomings aren't being played out on the street and parks and beaches doesn't mean that they are any less harmful. Help all of us to realize that we are in this together. We all fall short. We all need the forgiveness of God and to offer the same to one another. We pray that this will be a day of new beginnings for all of us.
Finally Lord, we lift up medical teams, first responders, and peace officers who are doing their job to help all of us at risk to their own health. We pray for safety from the virus for them. We pray for strength and focus as they do their work. We pray for healing of their minds and hearts as they experience the trauma of people suffering and dying, despite their best efforts. Encourage them. Support them with Your compassion and love. Provide for all their needs. Help us to do our part to lighten their load by staying home and maintaining social distancing so their patient load doesn't escalate beyond their ability to cope.
Our hearts feel the seriousness of this situation and we know
that You feel that along with us. You've told us to bring all our worries and cares to You because You care for us, and so that's what we're doing today. Here we are. Here are the concerns we have. Here are the people we love. Here's the overwhelming set of circumstances we face. We entrust it all to Your loving care. Amen
