Prayer For Help To Face Problems That Are Piling Up

Today we want to pray that we will remember to tap into the help that God wants to give us and to pray for many who are facing overwhelming challenges – whether finances or family relationships, grief, health issues.

Over and over again in the daily briefings we hear from politicians at some point we are reminded that we are in this together and that if we all do our part and stick together during these times of physical distancing and making efforts to bend the curve of the COVID-19 disease infections, then we will make it through.  The problems we face as a society with this virus are enormous but somehow we feel if we face them together we have hope.

We don’t need to make a list of all the areas in our personal lives and in society at large where we face problems – and in many case, problems like we’ve not seen before in our lifetime.  Family pressures are felt on every side.  One national crisis line in United States saw a 339% increase in calls month over month in March from February and an 891% increase from the same month last year.  People are looking for help, they are looking for answers, for someone to hear them and help them.

We are all feeling pressure as we face problems.  One of the greatest pressures comes when we face problems that seem overwhelming and feel like we have to try to manage things on our own.

Lord Jesus, we’re so grateful that you are always with us.  Your resurrection assures us that You have the power to deal with any problem we face and overcome it.  So many of us have not just one but a whole long list of things we are carrying, problems we are facing.  We really need to hear Your voice assuring us today that You are with us in what we are facing today and that You will make a way through for us.

We pray for those who face grief and loss today – whether from the virus or these day from the horrible mass shootings that took place
in Nova Scotia.  We’re all shocked and feel grief but none like the families and friends of the victims in those small towns up and down the countryside in Nova Scotia.  Loving God, please come close to them and all those impacted by violent crime today.  Hold them close to your heart and reassure them that even though today feels dark beyond belief that together with You, they will find a way through.

You promise peace, peace that’s different than what we can find when things are going alright.  You promise peace in the middle of the storm, in the middle of the insanity.  We want to hear your words of comfort and assurance that things will be okay so we don’t need to be worried, upset or afraid.

You come close to those who mourn  and so we know that You are with those who have lost friends and family members to the virus or to violence.  You are near the family members who are scared
because their senior loved one is in a care facility and we know how challenging the virus outbreaks are in so many places across our land and around the world.  We bring these dear ones to you and ask for protection and peace for them, for help for the care gives and even the army personnel who have been brought along to help with their care.  Help them all work out what’s needed so everyone can be safe and the support and help that’s needed for quality of life for these senior’s is kind and appropriate to their need.

Confusion and worry are easy to find in my head and heart, God but release them to you. You have the wisdom and power to run the universe so you surely are wise enough to give us helpful solutions for the complex and overlapping problems we face as individuals and as a community.  We choose to let you create peace in the
middle of our worries as you show us how much you care for us.  We trust you to meet my needs today and to show us how to co-operate with your plans.  We choose to live life on your terms today, not our own.

We believe that you will make good out of everything, even our mistakes.  We’ve often been afraid of all sorts of things about ourself and life around us, but today we surrender my hearts and minds to you, Jesus, so you can grow peace in us and show us how to live without fear.
