Prayer For Leaders and Government Officials As They Make Plans To Re-Open Communities After The Pandemic

Tuesday April 28, 2020

Leaders of several levels of government in various provinces have been announcing plans for reopening schools, jobs, restaurants etc. Many of them are saying this is not a plan to announce when but rather how we will reopen after the covid-19 virus transmission rate has gone down.

For weeks now Health officials have been reminding us that the restrictions we are all experiencing during for this time are for now  but they are not forever. They remind us that relaxing the restrictions will take up much longer time then putting them in place if we are to remain safe and not risk the loss of further life nor overwhelm our healthcare systems.

While it is difficult for many of us to continue with things as they are at the moment, we recognize that for a time we need to pay attention to and follow the guidelines given by those that know the patterns and will be watching carefully to see the results of decisions going forward. For the most part, they seem to have the best interests of the wide range of the population in mind.

Let’s pray for them today and for all of us. We’re all on the same team. We each have our own part to play but it takes all of us to get us to the place where we can safely be out in the community together again.

Loving God We want to thank you again for this day of life that you have brought us to. It is still true that this is the day you have made for us to rejoice and be glad in. Of course there seem to be challenges with all the restrictions that we continue to endure week after week but at the same time we also know that the very fact that we are well today, that we are fed and house today, that we have either wages or some government subsidy to help us with our finances in the short term makes us very blessed people.

We do particularly want to pray today for our government leaders and healthcare professionals as they deal with the effects of the cover 19 virus disease in these days and as they think and plan and prepare for a way to re-open times of work and play and interaction for all of us again. You want all of us to live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity and with so many competing agendas only You are wise enough to instruct leaders in the best way forward.  You are the God who sees the beginning in the end and everything in between and so we can come to you and ask for wisdom for our leaders to know what to do, how to do it, and when to implement the plans.

We pray today God that all of our leaders would turn to you and ask you for your direction and your guidance. You are prepared to bring creative solutions to the minds of government leaders to provide for those in need due to disruptions from the covid-19 crisis. You have more wisdom than we do, that is true for everyone from the leader of the most heavily populated country on down to the poorest of the poor person seeking shelter for tonight.

We know you are a God who provides practical wisdom that will impact us in every area of our life – physically, emotionally, spiritually. You are the God who sees the whole and who wants to provide for whole of our life and the whole of our community. No one is left out with you. What you offer comes free of charge because of the great gift of Jesus Christ for us. We give thanks for your love expressed in care. We can come to you with our specific needs today because you have specific answers to give us.

Even though the weather is warm and we all feel like we’ve been inside for a long time I pray God that you would give each person grace to be subject to the government authorities to do what’s right, to follow the rules, to work within the time frames.

I pray to Lord for protection of the subsidies that are coming in a variety of forms. I pray God that those who would seek to cheat and exploit these finances would be hindered from doing so. Bring about a change of heart. Let any false claims be exposed quickly and thoroughly. I pray that those who need help would get it. I pray that together we would be hospitable and generous with one another sharing what we have with those in need, whether it’s skills or money or goods.

As we affirm each day Lord, at the center and foundation of all of this is our need for Your mercy and grace in our time of need. Without You, God, we are powerless against the forces of evil and we experience harm that you yourself described as killing, stealing, and destroying.  But You promise to be with us in trouble, to rescue us, and to reward us with long life and Your salvation.  We’re standing on this promise today, trusting your generous heart and powerful love.

As you taught us, so we gather our prayers in the Lords prayer. Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. I will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen
