Prayer for Stability in Love During the Turbulent Times of the Pandemic
Wednesday April 22, 2020
Yesterday I shared with You about some of my own mental health struggles and how making God’s promises and God’s word my own totally changed my life. Now, of course, these are not magic wand statements that scatter stardust on us and our circumstances and make things right in an instant. Sometimes we have to hold onto truths for a while but I promise you that as we do, our emotions change, our circumstances change and we find out that God keeps every single promise.
A friend of mine often reminds us of this promise from God and it’s so true.
We have to come God, trusting that He is there and there for us. Even if it takes an hour, a day, a week, or even a bit longer for certain things to get worked out, we can have the peace and security of knowing that, as we reminded ourselves yesterday, with God’s help we will see His goodness in the land where we are living.
Let’s remind ourselves of the Three Life Affirmations
1. I am loved by God, always. I am loved without condition.
2. My life is of great beauty and infinite value. God has a plan for my life that is meaningful, purposeful and joyful. There is a work for me to do today that will bless others and give me deep satisfaction.
3. God is always with me. I need never face my problems alone. Together with God, any difficulty can be worked out and overcome.
Here’s what God’s word says about that so I can have confidence that I’m not just saying something I wish were true or hoping against hope is true. These words tell me, without doubt that we are loved by God always and that we are loved without condition.
The LORD’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The LORD is all I have, and so I put my hope in him. The LORD is good to everyone who trusts in him, So it is best for us to wait in patience—to wait for him to save us. May the Lord bless you and take care of you; May the Lord be kind and gracious to you; May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace. But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (From Lamentations 3, Numbers 6, Romans 5)
While God loves us without condition, His love can’t be poured into our lives and settle us down unless we open our hearts to God and welcome Him to live in us, and then trust His words to be ours. God will not force His love on us. He simply makes it available to us to receive, no strings attached. Jesus did everything necessary when He died on the cross so we could have peace and a life filled with God’s goodness today and every day. He also told his friends that our one job in making that come to life today
So, as we pray together today, this is what we are doing. We are setting our hearts to believe that Jesus has come into our lives and what He promises is ours today. Every word He spoke is truth – truth for us in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic when we feel vulnerable. We are not forgotten. We are not forsaken. God is with us. God loves us.
Let’s pray:
No matter what I face today, God, you will be with me. You love me without condition. Your love never fails. I have nothing to prove to you today, nothing to accomplish in order to earn your love. You’ve already proved that by dying for me on the cross and saying that if I would just believe You, You would give me new life and love me forever.
You care about me and you want to be good to me today. I invite you to do that. I put my hope in you today. I will wait patiently for you, listening for your voice so I am saved from those things that would harm me. I choose to let you be kind and gracious to me today. I choose to believe that you look on me today with favour. You made me and you like me. I choose now and throughout each day to receive the acceptance and unconditional love you offer me.
Heavenly Father, I pray blessing on each person watching this video today, that they will hold onto what You say and make it their own. I pray that they will open their hearts to receive Your
comfort and healing, Your words of acceptance and affirmation, Your joy and delight in them today. If they haven’t yet received Your forgiveness I pray they will do that and not waste what Jesus has done for them on the cross. If they are carrying inner pain I pray they will hand it over to you and let you carry them and fill the pain with your comfort and peace. Where the pain is covered up with anger I pray that you will give them grace to face the pain, let go of blaming someone else for what is going on inside them today, and let you wash it all out of them and make them clean and whole today.
Lord we receive a day of peace and joy and love today. We go out to face our family and friends, either virtually or those who are under the same roof as us. Help us to bless them with Your love in every way we can no matter what space they are living in today. We face our challenges with confidence in Your promise to show us goodness today. Amen
