PRAYER FOR WISDOM IN PRODUCTION AND USE OF MASKS AND OTHER PPE
Today we want to pray for those who are needing the personal protection equipment, those who are making and distributing this equipment and for all of us who need not only physical protection from this virus but the personal protection God offers us for our minds and hearts through the Lord Jesus.
Just as masks have a dual purpose – to both keep germs from getting to us and from keeping germs going out from us in harmful ways to others -- so we need God’s help and protection for our hearts and minds from words, images, attitudes and actions that are against God’s will. We also don’t want to spew out deadly germs that bring harm to others and so we need cleansing, healing, and protection from God so all we say and do lifts up and helps others rather than brings them harm.
Heavenly Father, We thank you for the many things you have taught us as you’ve given skill and insight to scientists, engineers and those who find out what’s necessary to provide protection against germs and viruses. We thank you for simple practices like washing our hands and wiping down surfaces around us. Help us to persevere with physical distancing during this time when so many are still getting sick and dying.
We pray today for those who are retooling their factories and ramping up their efforts to provide personal protection equipment for medical staff and front line personnel. We pray for the ability to do this swiftly, for supplies to come on time, for engineers and workers to assemble the equipment without hold-ups and for this necessary equipment to be produced and distributed to those who need it in time.
We pray for the minds and hearts of tired front line workers to be protected from discouragement and despair. We bless them to have the patience they need, with all the challenges they face, and thin personal resources with which to meet the one big ask after another. We pray against anger and self-pity. We pray for protection from the emotional and mental fatigue that sets in. Protect these from PTSD problems going forward. Protect their hearts and thoughts with your encouragement. Fill their hearts with faith and hope that You will provide what is needed by the time it is needed – whether that is wisdom to make a diagnosis, or strength for what is asked of them in this day.
Where we have been contaminated by the germs of sin we pray again today, as so many do in a Sunday church service: Most Merciful God, We confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. In Your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You our God. Amen
Thank you for your promise to forgive us and cleanse us from all that is not right within us when we confess these shortcomings to you. We receive Your cleansing and forgiveness. We choose now to go forward strong and safe in Your care today, guided by Your will, not our own.

We pray for all of us that you would help us remain close to You and to live a clean and holy life today. With the writer of the Psalms we pray: Lord, guard my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips. Don’t let my heart be drawn to what is evil. Don’t let me join with people who do evil. (Psalm 141:3-4a NIRV)
