Prayer For Help To Overcome Temptations While We Live Near The Fridge and TV During Physical Distancing
Wednesday May 13, 2020
Jesus knows best of all how difficult it is to deal with temptation. Let’s pray today and ask for His help to get these things right as we practice physical distancing.
As we struggle with our emotional swings, with boredom, with being home near the fridge and TV all the time while we practice physical distancing with nothing else to do, we have a lot to learn these days from those who are recovering not just from various addictions.
Anyone who has tried to break free from the harmful use of a substance or an addictive habit understands temptation. They’ve had to learn to deal with the overwhelming obsession to "pick up", even though they knew that giving into that urge in a moment of weakness would result in damaging consequences. They know how easy it is to lie to ourselves until we are convinced that something we have been yearning for will make us happy and help us solve all our problems.
Heavenly Father, How many times these days do we find ourselves dejectedly asking once again, "How can I win over temptation and turn my life around?" You promise us a way forward for us. You promise to help us and to give us victory over temptation as we turn our will and our lives over to His care.
Thank You for Jesus who shows us the way. Thank You Jesus for coming to earth, taking on human flesh, and experiencing our suffering and temptation so You could identify with us. Even though You faced many difficult moments and challenges You never gave into temptation because You never doubted Your Heavenly Father’s care or power to work out His plan in Your life. And we thank you now that Jesus, You have compassion for us in our weaknesses. When we invite You to be Lord of our lives, we are filled with His Holy Spirit who gives us the power to conquer temptation.
Lord Jesus, Thank You for making a way for us to have victory over temptation and sin. Where we are weak we ask You to strengthen us. Our desire is to live a victorious life in the power of Your Holy Spirit. Please help us to do so. You promise us that victory over temptation in every situation is possible. That is such good news even while we struggle.
So Lord today we ask for practical help so we live our lives in ways that keep us as far away from temptation as possible. Help us to be prayerful, asking You to help us to be cons
cious of what is helpful or what might be harmful.
Help us to be practical in our everyday living while we spend so much time at home. Give us good ideas for ways to avoid empty and unstructured time that can easily make us vulnerable to temptation. Help us to eat well, exercise, get sleep, schedule events, do kind things, make reasonable plans and live in the discipline of each plan.
Gracious God, we admit that we are weak. Please strengthen us by the power of Your Holy Spirit to withstand temptation and give us the will and the desire to do what pleases you. Amen
