Prayer To Give Witness Well To God Being With Us
Friday May 29, 2020
As we said yesterday, in this new season of business and service re-openings with physical distancing shaping of our activities we have a sense of a new beginning. Things are not as they were and are not likely as they will be at some point in the future when there is a treatment or a vaccine for this virus.
So, in this new season that is coming – sort of – we are looking to God’s Word – and the familiar words of John’s Gospel - for the stability and direction we need to walk safely and well.
In John 1 we are introduced to a man named John – often known as John the Baptist and the way he lived his life in God’s plan – also during turbulent and uncertain times – is a good example for us during our own turbulent times.
Yesterday we read these words from John chapter 1:
Now today in verse 6:
Heavenly Father, Our names are not John but we are those You have brought to this world for Your purposes just as John was brought to his day and his time.
Every day You invite us to know You and to make You known so others can come to know You, know how kind and good You are, come to believe that You are God, give themselves to You and find light and life in You. We’re grateful that we don’t have to be God. Like John was just a man so we are simple human beings. We don’t have to be more or less than who we are. We don’t have to try to be in control of our destiny. We can live simply and joyfully today as those who testify that we belong to You and You are the light.
We’re so privileged that You allow us to be part of this great ministry of representing You. How awesome is that. We pray to represent You well in all we say and do.
I know I’d be scared to ask frail and unpredictable people to represent me and others form an impression of what kind of person I am by what they do and say, and yet that’s exactly the faith You have in us and the privilege You give to us.
We welcome You to our lives in this day. We welcome You to speak to our hearts and minds through Your word, through things we see and hear and read. We welcome You to show us truth in the middle of all the noises and misinformation that circulates. It’s hard to know sometimes what’s accurate and what’s fake and part of all the conspiracy theories that are swirling around the globe. So come and guide us into all truth Holy Spirit.
We are listening. Our eyes and ears and hearts are open to what You want to show us while we meditate on Your word and pray and also while we work, play, sleep, read, shop, and interact with others. We receive the light that You’ve come to our day to provide for us and we thank You for it. Amen

In him
[Jesus]
was life,
and that life
was the light
of all mankind.
The light shines
in the darkness,
and the darkness
has not overcome it.
John 1:4-5
Now today in verse 6:
There was
a man sent
from God
whose name
was John.
John 1:6
He came
as a witness
to testify
concerning
that light,
so that
through him
all might believe.
John 1:7
He himself
was not the light;
he came only
as a witness
to the light.
John 1:7

The Spirit shows
what is true
and will come
and guide you
into the
full truth.
John 16:13

I know I’d be scared to ask frail and unpredictable people to represent me and others form an impression of what kind of person I am by what they do and say, and yet that’s exactly the faith You have in us and the privilege You give to us.
But you are
a chosen race,
a royal priesthood,
a holy nation,
a people for
his own possession,
that you may proclaim
the excellencies
of him who called you
out of darkness
into his marvelous light.

Open
my eyes
to see
the wonderful
truths
in your
instructions.
