Prayer To Hear The Right Words To Navigate EAch Day In These Changing Times
Wednesday May 20, 2020
We see and hear so many words today – particularly with time in front of screens during the times of physical distancing and lock down during this COVID-19 crisis. With so much that changes from day to day it is certainly helpful to stay informed as we adjust and move into the “new normal.” We watch and listen to answers for our questions and ideas for planning. So many leaders speak to the information they are getting from science and data collected. At the same time, there’s not a day goes by that we are not told that there is still “so much that we don’t know” about the virus and what best practices might be going forward.
I’m grateful today that in the middle of the many uncertainties and unknowns there is so much that we do know that has stood the test o time and will carry us through this season. The Word of God is tried and true and appropriate for every situation we find ourselves in.
Let’s give thanks both for God’s written word and for Jesus, who is the Living Word, given for each one of us. Let’s commit ourselves again to be instructed, corrected, comforted, guided and protected by the Word of God.
Loving Heavenly Father, we’re so grateful for You today and for Your presence in our lives as we move along through these changing times. We give thanks today that we can find security and be at rest because your way is perfect and Your Word is flawless.
We don’t have to know everything You’ve ever said or educate ourselves with advanced degrees, but just today open our hearts to hear from You and put into practice what You show us.
How can we ever thank you enough for sending Jesus to come into our world and show us Your love, Your heart for us, and Your way forward. We want to do these days with grace and truth and Jesus, You are just that and will live that in and through us in every season of life.
We’ve been grateful during these weeks and months of the pandemic to have kind and clear voices of health professionals and leaders providing useful information but they are only doing the best they can with limited information in overwhelming times.
You, Lord, on the other hand speak words of life to us and through us. You are the creator or the universe and the one who holds all things together with your word. Where our information is so limited, not just about the virus but all things upcoming, You know everything and You know how to show us the way to navigate changing circumstances safely.
Hold us today we pray, close to Your heart, secure in Your word, trusting in Your promises, and protected by Your mighty power. Help us to be conscious of Your embrace, Your presence, and your words of direction and guidance. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we not only know Your word but put it into practice quickly and effectively.
Thank you God, once again, for being the Word of life in us and for giving us everything we need to do all the good work that You have prepared for us to do. We go forward today with You, confident that these will not be wasted days, these will not be useless days of fear and worry, these will not be days of loss and breakdown, but with You and Your Word front and center in our minds and hearts, we will experience productive and joyful days that are useful for your Kingdom. Amen
If you haven’t already, why not take a few moments and either read or listen to some verses from God’s Word and let them settle in your heart. These days of being on our own more are wonderful times to actually memorize some important verses so they are in our minds in moments that we need to fall back on them. Have a strong and fruitful day. See you tomorrow.

As for God,
his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word
is flawless;
he shields
all who
take refuge
in him.

The Word became
flesh and made his
dwelling among us.
We have seen his glory,
the glory of the one
and only Son, who came
from the Father, full
of grace and truth.

The Son is the radiance
of God's glory and the
exact representation
of His nature,
upholding all things
by His
powerful word.

Blessed
rather
are those
who hear
the word of God
and obey it.”

And we also thank God
continually because,
when you received
the word of God,
which you heard from us,
you accepted it not as
a human word, but as
it actually is,
the word of God,
which is indeed at work
in you who believe.
