Prayer For Help With Unexpected Problems
Monday June 8, 2020
In the best of times we often bumped into unexpected problems that we didn’t have a solution for. During these uncertain days of the pandemic and the tenuous steps to reopen to some degree, all sorts of new problems will certainly crop up and we’ll have to face them somehow.
I’m always very encouraged by the story of Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding he attended with his mom and his friends. A very ordinary event in the town that suddenly had the potential for disaster and embarrassment.
When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him,
“They have no more wine.”
John 2:3
In the moment of realizing the problem, Jesus’ mom did what we all need to do. She mentioned it to Jesus. She didn’t tell Him what to do or complain, she just brought the situation to Him and then instructed the person’s with the problem,
“Do whatever He tells you.”
John 2:5
It’s such a simple and uncomplicated approach to problems that we all can learn from and actually put into practice today, can’t we? That’s why we take a few moments each day to talk to God and to watch how He takes care of things in ways only He can do. So, in faith in God’s goodness for us, let’s talk to Him today.
Heavenly Father, We are so grateful that all of our lives are in your care. We are grateful that you see everything going on around us and you even can see ahead and know what we’re going to bump into. You prepare well for us and you provide everything we need. We’re so grateful for the ways that you show your power and your generosity to us over and over again.
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never
permit the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22
Forgive us for the many times that we stumble and falter and struggle because we try to sort out our problems on our own and don’t bring them to you. You and you alone have what we need and you long for us to do our days together with you, particularly these uncertain days that have many unexpected situations and challenges during this pandemic.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to
God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
And so we do bring ourselves to you; we bring our loved ones to you; we bring the difficulties that we see and read in the news to you, trusting that you have solutions and that in your way and your time you will show us both your strength and in what ways we are meant to be involved.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and
he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
We know that sometimes what you tell us to do seems totally upside down to the “wisdom of the day“ but there’s never a time when the advice that you give us is stupid or not practical for what’s actually going on.
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”: so they filled them
to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the
master of the banquet.”
John 2:7-8
As surely as those servants had to show a lot of faith when you told them to fill up the water jugs and then draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet to taste as wine, so we need to have faith that the simple things that you tell us to do that seem so totally different than what the situation is calling for, these are actually the things that will give the exact help that’s needed.
This was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory;
and his disciples believed in him.
John 2:11
Thank you Lord that when we walk with you and when we do things as you direct that not only do things go well for us but that your glory and your greatness gets displayed for others to see. We live God to show others how good you are and to spread the good news of the gospel of your love and kindness to them and I sometimes I think that it’s less our words and more art stories of your grace showing up in our lives when we put our trust in you that has a powerful impact on the people that were speaking to.
Of course we don’t want to stop speaking about You. We want to continue to tell the story of your love and how are you paid the price for our sins and Your invitation to live in loving relationship with you, but we want the way we live in every action every circumstance of our life to be offered to you in such a way that your presence and your work can give effective witness to others that God really is present with ordinary people – even us - and God really is working on our behalf.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Psalm 32:8
Give us grace today in every moment to be conscious of you, to be committed to you, and to be offering all that we are to you. Amen
