Prayer Entrusting Our Financial Future To God's Hands

MONEY

There is a saying that “money makes the world go around.” The subject of money and markets and financial challenges has been on the mind of governments around the world since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in WuHan China. Closing down economies, opening up economies - stopping, starting, restarting. It's all about money and how to help individual and countries have sufficient money during the period of social isolation needed to stop the transmission of the virus.

Jesus told us not to worry about money and yet, when we do not have enough money, we worry. When unemployment rates are higher than they've been in decades and the future of a number of industry and service areas going forward are in question, then we feel the vulnerability that uncertainty brings. If ever there was a time to lean into Jesus' words about money, this season of the pandemic is the time.

So I tell you, don’t worry about the things

you need to live—what you will eat,

drink, or wear. Life is more important than food,

and the body is more important than

what you put on it. Look at the birds.

They don’t plant, harvest,

or save food in barns, but your heavenly Father f

eeds them. Don’t you know you are worth

much more than they are?

Matthew 6:25-26

Let's pray today for God's heart and confidence in His love for us during this time of financial challenge:

Heavenly Father, you know us well and you know our vulnerabilities. Money and our future well-being are certainly in the news and in our thoughts. Today we want to hear from You and trust You and put our confidence in Your care for us. Lord, you used the birds and things like wild flowers and grass to remind us that You know how to take care of those who have created. We don't need to have sleepless nights worrying about the future.

We commit to doing what we can to find employment, work hard, and make the most of the opportunities we are given but then we pray that You will help us let go of the all the rest. We know that money is not what makes things happen to make our world secure. It's You God who does that. Today we choose to trust you and stop worrying about money.

Those who work hard all day come home and sleep in peace.

It is not important if they have little or much to eat.

But the rich worry about their wealth and are not able to sleep.

Ecclesiastes 5:15

And so Lord, we simply want to speak Your words back to You in faith as we commit before You:

We will not worry at all about having enough food or clothing. We don't want to be like the heathen who take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. Our heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that we need them and He will give them to us as we give Him first place in our lives and live as He wants us to. We won't be anxious about tomorrow because we know that God, You will take care of our tomorrow too. We will live one day at a time.

So don’t worry at all about having enough

food and clothing. Why be like the heathen?

For they take pride in all these things and

are deeply concerned about them.

But your heavenly Father already

knows perfectly well that you need

them, and he will give them to you

if you give him first place in your life

and live as he wants you to.

So don’t be anxious about tomorrow.

God will take care of your tomorrow

too. Live one day at a time.
