Prayer Of Thanks and For Support For Seniors in Long Term Care
Thursday July 2, 2020
Well, little by little doors begin to open. In these days it's the doors to long term care facilities where so many of our loved ones have been in isolation for so long. In several provinces there have been small moves to allow family visits on patios or in designated areas of the facility to take place so loved ones can be together and see one another.

We know Jesus cares about us and cares about our loved ones in long term care facilities where we haven't been able to get to them and care for them. Even when He was dying on the cross for us He was doing all He could to see that His mother was cared for. We know that God is on our side as we do all we can to care for our loved ones while maintaining necessary structures to keep them safe and healthy.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing
nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he
said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the
disciple took her to his own home.
John 19:26-27
So today, we want to pray for seniors, elders, their families and the conditions in which we all find themselves today as governments open the doors for reunions among loved ones.
Gray hair is a crown of glory on people who have lived good lives.
It is earned by living right.
Proverbs 16:31
Heavenly Father, we thank you for elders and seniors, for the love they share with us, for the lessons they have to teach us.
Old people are wise. Those who live a long time have understanding.
Job 12:12
We thank You for their willingness to put up with all the distancing and disconnection they’ve had to bear during these months of the pandemic. So many have been willing to put up with more than their fair share of the restrictions in order to help others stay safe and healthy. They’ve paid a huge price and the ones I’ve been in touch with have had such a good attitude through it all. We can certainly learn from their generosity of spirit. Strengthen and encourage them today, we pray.
Maybe my mind and body will become weak, but God
is my source of strength. He is mine forever!
Psalm 73:26
We’re so grateful that even as bodies and minds become weaker and more frail You have promised to be the source of strength and comfort every senior needs for each day of their journey. We bless them to be conscious of Your presence and Your strength today. Care for them in their aches and pains and for those who are confused and struggle with their memories, Lord would You comfort them and surround them so they can know peace even during this fragile time.
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch
over your souls, as those who will have to give an account.
Let them do this with joy and not with groaning,
for that would be of no advantage to you.
Hebrews 13:17
And Lord, even though we wish there could be more openness and more availability of space and time to be with our loved ones in care facilities, we pray today to be patient and respectful as leaders seeks to protect the elderly who've been so attacked by this virus. Help us not to complain and look for reasons to criticize but to support the efforts of many who want to do what's right for everyone.
We bless our elders and seniors to have soft hearts towards You and to rest in Your good care. We pray that as people in the Bible – Anna and Simeon – were willing to wait many decades in faith, believing that the Messiah Jesus would be born and then gave thanks to You when they saw Him, so we pray today that seniors would know the joy of seeing You, seeing Your salvation, seeing the light that You are prepared to be for them every day and to the whole world. For those seniors who don’t yet have a personal relationship with you we pray that Your Spirit will touch their hearts today and they will reflect on eternity and on the joy You have awaiting them if they will just put their trust in You – and that’s joy for today not just when they go out into eternity.
“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your
servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you
have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation
to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
Luke 2:29-32
And so once again we commit our seniors into Your care, Heavenly Father. No matter how many birthdays they have they will always be Your beloved children. We bless them in Your name and we bless You God and give thanks for the gift of seniors and elders among us. Amen
