TAKING HOLD OF HOPE

COVID-19 virus case numbers increase in many places. What’s different now as compared to earlier in the pandemic is that the majority of those who are being infected or young people under the age of 40. With the long weeks of lockdown and physical distancing and with no end in sight it is a challenge for all of us, including young people facing warm summer days, to hold on to hope for good times and an end to this pandemic.

So today we pray for the gift of hope. It is actually a gift, given by the Holy Spirit, so we’re told in the Bible. When we hold on to hope, and take hold of the hope in front of us, we find joy and peace come along with it. The only solid foundation for our hope is the goodness of God and so with that in mind let’s pray.

We give you thanks and praise Heavenly Father for who you are and all you are doing in our lives. We thank you that your love never ceases and that it is new this morning. Help us to recognize the gifts you are putting into this day.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Romans 12:12

Thank you for the gift of hope that gives us strength to be patient as we face trials and challenges of today. Thank you for hope that gives us the grace to be self controlled so that we do those things that keep all of us safe and that lift us up as individuals and as a people together who are seeking to follow you.

Thank you God for the amazing words that we read in Hebrews today:

God cannot tell lies. So his promises and vows
are two things that could never be changed.
We have run to God for safety.
Now his promises should
greatly encourage us to take hold of
the hope that is right in front of us.
This hope is like a firm and
steady anchor for our souls.
Hebrews 6:18-19a

Help us to take hold of the hope that is right in front of us. Fill us with joy, and peace as we trust you and walk with you in the power of the Holy Spirit.

I pray that God, who gives hope, will bless you with complete happiness
and peace because of your faith. And may the power
of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.
Romans 15:13

We always want everything to be clear in each area of our life but we know that you’ve told us to wait on you and that as we do that with quietness and trust that you will work your best plan into our life. It’s a plan for a future with hope

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord.
“They are plans for good and not for disaster,
to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

You are my place of safety and my shield.
Your word is my only hope.
Psalm 119: 114

You know our concerns, our longings, and our pain. Help us to hear and respond to your voice as you take us on a course today that will address all of these in the very best way.

We love you. We love being loved by you. We want to love you more. Amen.
