WELCOMING GOD'S HEALING LIGHT
The World Health Organization is now saying that evidence is emerging that COVID-19 can be spread through the air as well as through small droplets that come from people when they cough, sneeze, or speak and then quickly sink to the ground or onto surfaces. A few days ago 239 scientiest in 32 countries outlined evidence they say show this to be true. These smaller droplets can travel further, can get into air systems - perhaps that's why we saw the kind of infection rates we did on cruise ships. Who knows?

In doing some reading about the implications of such a shift in public health thinking in this area I came across a little fact that informed me that ultraviolet light essentially rips up the genetic material of the virus and deactivates it quite readily while seemingly preserving the ability for antigens to used in vaccines. We know that natural sunlight has ultraviolet light and that it triggers our bodies to produce Vitamin D which strengthens bones, muscles, and our immune system.
In the face of the deadly disease of sin, God, who is light, invites us to let His light shine on us and in our hearts so we can know Him and experience all the peace and safety that living in the light gives us. Listen to these familiar words:
This is the message we have heard from him
and declare to you: God is light; in him
there is no darkness at all. If we claim to
have fellowship with him and yet walk in
the darkness, we lie and do not live out
the truth. But if we walk in the light, as
he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus,
his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 1:5-7
Let's enter into that light and let the light of Christ do everything in us that needs doing today as we pray:
Heavenly Father, we thank you that you are helping scientists and health care professionals learn more about this deadly disease that is bringing sickness and death to many and having such a major impact on how we all live in community. We pray that anything that is twisted or unnecessary will be filtered out of the health conversations and that what is helpful and good will become more clear and more pronounced and will help effective protections and treatments be developed. Thank you for things like ultraviolet light that is part of what is defeating this deadly virus.
The people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living
in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.
Matthew 4:16
We're extremely grateful that while we were all living in the darkness of sin, outside of relationship with You, You did what was necessary for light to come to us that could save us and heal us and lead us along the path of life.
When Jesus spoke again
to the people, he said,
“I am the light
of the world.
Whoever follows me
will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
Thank you for Jesus who left heaven to come to earth to be light for us. Today we affirm our trust in you, Jesus as the light of the world. We commit to following You knowing that You know the way and You are more than willing to be the light so we can see the right way to navigate today and every day.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
Psalm 119:105
You have given us Your word that we can read every day and learn how to move forward. Help us to take the time to turn on the light by reading, meditating, and apply Your words of light to our thoughts and behaviours. It would be silly to turn on the light and then shut our eyes and continue to try to navigate in the darkness. Help us to have ears and eyes and hearts open and available to the insight and direction You are giving us in the Bible. Help us to schedule time to be quiet with You and read or listen to Your word and to hear the voice of Your Spirit as the Spirit gives us insight into what we are reading.
The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1
Even though there are so many things we don't know and so many unexpected and challenging things to deal with every day - including this new information that there may be more ways this virus is being spread than we previously knew - no matter what we will not fear because Jesus you will be with us. you will be our strength and our light. We will hold onto You. We will let You lead and guide us on the path You know and can clearly see. We’re so grateful that we don't need to be afraid but can walk with confidence and trust as we accompany You.
But you are a chosen people, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, God’s
special possession, that you may
declare the praises of him who called
you out of darkness into his
wonderful light.
1 Peter 2:9
We also want to rise to the challenge to also be bearers of the light that You are living in us. Because You have chosen us and made us Your people we are able to speak and communicate how wonderful You are and what an amazing transformation You’ve brought to our lives as we’ve come to live in the light.
You are the light of the world.
Let your light shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14a, 16a
So help us today to live as the light and let Your light shine before others, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. Amen
