Prayer For Help To Willingly Walk In God's Way Today

DISCERNMENT

With so many conflicting views of reality in our community, on social media, and in the news, about God, about relationships, money, use of our time etc. and so many other issues, we need discernment only God can give us so we can walk in truth.

Discernment is the ability to have understanding and sound judgment in knowing and doing the right thing. Spiritually discerning people have the capacity to separate and sift what is good based on their knowledge of God and His ways.

Without God’s wisdom, we don’t know how to live successfully in this life, or what will happen to us in the next. What are we to do? God has given us the answer in the Bible.

Deal with your servant according to your love and

teach me your decrees. I am your servant;

give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

Psalm 119:124-125

When we spend time in God’s word, He will give us a discerning heart to know His ways. As we seek God for direction, He will give us discernment in our spirit about the right way to go. Let’s do that today.

God, we don’t want our own imagination or desires to mislead us. Help us to make an honest assessment of our own will versus Your revealed will.

1. We acknowledge that our own understanding is not enough. We need your perspective and guidance in the small and large decisions of life. Thank you for Your promise to:

He guides the humble in what is right

and teaches them His way.

Psalm 25:9

2. We know that sin blocks us from hearing Your voice, and so ask You to reveal any way we’ve been living in self-will and going against Your principles. We want open communication with You. We want to know our prayers are heard and to hear Your voice. We know that if we:

If I regard iniquity in my heart,

the Lord will not hear me.

Psalm 66:18

So give us understanding to know Your principles and to have the willingness and grace to walk in Your ways. You have the Words of eternal life we need today.

We know that the foundation of walking in Your ways is accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, and having the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. Discerning Your ways is the work of the Holy Spirit within us. He will direct our path and guide us into all truth. We welcome that guiding and discerning voice to fill our minds and hearts today.

But we know that we are rebels at heart and so we need help to surrender and yield our will for Your’s God. Once again we intentionally place our trust in You and commit ourselves to walk in Your way at every point today. to His way. Whatever the difficulty of the moment in doing that we want to trust Jesus and live as His follower when He says:

Jesus said, If any of you wants to be my follower,

you must turn from your selfish ways,

take up your cross, and follow me.

Mark 8:34

We trust that Your guidance will becomes clearer and clearer as we walk in obedience to Your revealed will. Amen
