Prayer To Lean On The Constant Goodness of God During Unpredictable Times

CONSTANT
One of my readings this morning had the word “constant.” It said:
Your commands make me wiser than my enemies,
for they are my constant guide.
Psalm 119:98
I found that word “constant” refreshing to my heart in these days when very little is constant and everything seems to be moving about, often in unexpected ways.
I did a little search of the word “constant” in the Bible. One of the early instances of it was included in the story of Enoch – a really fascinating story because it seems he never died. Listen:
Enoch was sixty-five years old when his son Methuselah was born.
Afterwards he lived another 300 years in fellowship with God,
and produced sons and daughters; then, when he was 365,
and in constant touch with God, he disappeared, for God took him!
Genesis 5:21-24
I don’t know what happened to Enoch and how God took him but there was something pretty special about Enoch’s relationship with God. He was “in constant touch with God.” Are we? There was obviously a very beautiful companionship that went on between Enoch and God. Best friends would seem to me to be one way to describe how they were together.
If we were to look at our use of time and our time spent with God, is there a warmth, a settledness, a relaxed openness to how we interact?
One of our purposes in posting this vlog video each day is to help all of us look up and see the God who is in control of everything that is going on around us. God is always with us, listening, caring, longing to share whatever we are going through with us. We need never face our problems alone. Together with God any difficulty can be worked out and overcome.
Enoch knew something of the sweetness of being with God and letting that conscious awareness of God’s goodness seep into the deepest places of His soul.
God hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s here with us today. Let’s take a few moments to be with Him.
Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that You are God and You are with us. Along with King David we want to affirm today:
I will praise the Lord no matter what happens.
I will constantly speak of his glories and grace.
Psalm 34:1
When we quiet our hearts and center our thoughts on You, You fill us with peace and show us things we could not have thought up on our own. You help us avoid danger. You show us ways to accomplish things that we wonder about but most of all, You just come close and stabilize us with Your companionship and love.
But you are merciful and gentle, Lord, slow in getting angry,
full of constant loving-kindness and of truth;
Psalm 86:15
We don’t even have to worry about always getting it right because even when we stumble and fail, You are merciful and gentle, slow to anger and full of constant loving-kindness and truth. You don’t pretend we didn’t do harmful hurtful things, but in Your love You call us back to Your way and forgive our sins when we turn from them to You.
Satisfy us in our earliest youth with your loving-kindness,
giving us constant joy to the end of our lives.
Psalm 90:14
Lord, we put our trust in You again today knowing that no matter how many days, weeks, months, or years remain for us here on the earth, what pandemics come and go, whatever changes that make things better or worse cycle through, You will satisfy us with your lovingkindness and will give us constant joy to the end of our lives.
That’s a safe and solid place of peace to stand on today. We thank you. We bless you. We love you. We will do today with you. Amen
