Prayer To The God Who Hears Me

Saturday August 29, 2020

GOD HEARS ME

Lord, listen to me
and understand
what I am trying to say.
My God and King,
listen to my prayer.
Every morning, Lord,
I lay my gifts before you
and look to you for help.
And every morning
you hear my prayers.
Psalm 5:1-3

We open our hearts to You today God, confidence that You listen to us and understand what we are trying to say even when we lack the proper words or even the proper understanding of what we need to pray for.  We're so grateful that every morning we can come to you and look to you for help knowing that we'll get a fair hearing and loving actions on our behalf.

God, you don’t want
evil people near you.
They cannot stay
in your presence.
Fools cannot come near you.
You hate those who do evil.
You destroy those who tell lies.
Lord, you hate those
who make secret plans
to hurt others.
Psalm 5:4-6

We ask forgiveness today Lord for anything that keeps us from coming close to You.  For those things we've done that we ought not to have done and those things we have left undone that we should have done, forgive us.  For the words our mouth and the meditations of our heart that were not pleasing to You, we ask forgiveness.

But by your great mercy,
I can enter your house.
I can worship
in your holy Temple
with fear and respect for you.
Lord, show me
your right way of living,
and make it easy
for me to follow.
People are looking
for my weaknesses,
so show me how
you want me to live.
Psalm 5:7-8

Thank You for for promise that when we confess our sins You are willing and able to forgive us for every wrong and to cleanse us from everything that is not right because of them.  So we are grateful that we can come near to You today, because of your great mercy.  We can worship You with respect and expect to hear Your voice of guidance clearly as we move through this day.  You don't make it hard to follow You but do everything necessary so we can go with You with light hearts and joyful steps.  You are well aware of our weaknesses – You don’t even need our enemies to point them out to You, even though they are happy to do so.  We pray today that You will help us recognize what You are showing us so we live well and do Your will.

My enemies never tell the truth.
They only want to destroy people.
Their words come from mouths
that are like open graves.
They use their lying tongues
to deceive others.
Punish them, God!
Let them be caught
in their own traps.
They have turned against you,
so punish them for their many crimes.
Psalm 5:9-10

We remember, Lord Jesus, that You told us that the enemy was out and about every day seeking to kill, steal, and destroy us and so we pray today that they would be caught in their own traps and punished for their many crimes.  As You taught us in the prayer we so often call The Lord’s Prayer – “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”  That’s what we’re asking of You again today.  We don’t take that rescue and protection for granted.  We know You are willing to provide it to all who ask and so we are asking.

And now with the writer of this Psalm we affirm:

But let those who trust in you
be happy forever.
Protect and strengthen
those who love your name.
Lord, when you bless good people,
you surround them with your love,
like a large shield that protects them.
Psalm 5:11-12

We are happy to live in that protection, surrounded by Your love, strengthen as we walk in Your name, enjoying Your blessing always.  Amen
