Prayer Affirming That Nothing is Too Difficult For God
Nothing Is Too Difficult For God
I bumped into a familiar verse and actually learned where it shows up in the Bible – which I had not previously known.
Lord God, you created heaven and earth by your great power and
outstretched arm; nothing is too hard for you! Great and mighty
God, whose name is the Lord of heavenly forces, marvelous are your
purposes, and mighty are your deeds. I am the Lord, the God of all
living things! Is anything too hard for me?
Jeremiah 32:17, 18b-19, 27
Now this verse was the basis of a song in the late 1970’s early 1980’s. I remember being part of a group in Taiwan that translated the song into Mandarin Chinese for use in our local church. Here’s how the song went. The original lyrics used “Thee and Thou” but we’ve updated them to You.
Ah Lord God, you have made the heavens
And the earth by Your great power
Ah Lord God, you have made the heavens
And the earth by Your outstretched arm
Nothing is too difficult for You
Nothing is too difficult for You
Oh great and mighty God
Great in counsel and mighty in deed
Nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing
Nothing is too difficult for You.
Jeremiah was a prophet who had to give difficult messages from God to the people who were living in rebellion against God. They would have to experience suffering hardship because of their disobedience but God reassured them that He would be kind to them and He had the power to do so no matter how difficult things looked to them.
I will bring them back to this place to live securely. They will be my
people, and I will be their God. I will give them one heart and one
mind so that they may worship me all the days of their lives, for their
own good and for the good of their children after them.
Jeremiah 32:37-39
I will make an everlasting covenant with them, never to stop treating
them graciously. I will put into their hearts a sense of awe for me so
that they won’t turn away from me. I will rejoice in treating them
graciously, and I will plant them in this land faithfully and with all my
heart and being.
Jeramiah 32:37b-41
And so God, over our own situation here thousands of years later we once again proclaim:
Nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing
Nothing is too difficult for You.
We give surrender ourselves to You. We are Your people. You are our God. We want you to do our work in us today that will give us one heart and one mind so that we may worship You all the days of our lives, including during this difficult season of the pandemic, for our own good and for the good of the generations to come after us.
You are such a gracious and kind God and so we take heart in Your promise to be gracious to us, Your people. We need that sense of awe to come alive in us as we recognize who You truly are and how amazing You are. We make You so ordinary so often but You are incredibly good and kind, amazingly holy and righteous in all Your ways.
Even though so many things feel uncertain in our relationships, our finances, our future we want to affirm today:
Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all
that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us.
Ephesian 3:20
