Prayer To Recognize Spiritual Solutions At The Core Of All The Other Issues

This season of the pandemic certainly has us watching closely what we see doesn’t it? Particularly as we move into cooler weather and the “usual cold and flu season” we wonder how things will go. Schools are up and running in some places and soon to do so across the board. Whether it is surfaces we touch or the air we breathe or how much space we put between one another, we are reminded over and over again to look at this physical world and our place in it.
While there is a place for that – because we certainly want to keep all of us healthy and not spread the virus around if at all possible, the truth is that at our core we are not primarily physical beings but rather spiritual people who have a soul and live in a body.
God has created us to work properly only when we are filled with His life. We can’t think and choose properly unless we have the life of God in us. On our own we live stressed and obsessed. Over and over again our efforts end in disaster. Without God, we just don’t know how life works.
But people who
aren’t spiritual
can’t receive
these truths
from God’s Spirit.
It all sounds foolish
to them and they
can’t understand it,
for only those
who are spiritual
can understand
what the Spirit means.
1 Corinthians 2:14
And so while we pray for physical health for all of us – from the youngest to the oldest – and for mental and emotional strength and comfort – because these are challenging days to the soul of all of us – today we want to pray most about living in the power of God’s Spirit so all these other aspects of our life work properly. Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your promise to give us new life – cleansing from our sin, a new spirit to form the basis of new thoughts, and a healed heart that allows us to be tender and fully human. Today we ask You to:
Then I will sprinkle
pure water on you
and make you pure.
I will wash away all
your filth, the filth
from those nasty idols,
and I will make you pure.
I will also put a new spirit
in you to change
your way of thinking.
I will take out the
heart of stone from
your body and give
you a tender, human
heart. I will put
my Spirit inside you
and change you so
that you will obey
my laws. You will
carefully obey
my commands.
Ezekiel 36:25-27
At our core we are spiritual beings so in order to live well today we are asking you for whatever spiritual solutions You know we need for what’s going on in our lives. We need You God, You alone who can fill us with life and give us true understanding of how life works and the strength to act and react in life giving ways.
Jesus replied,
“I assure you,
no one can enter
the Kingdom of God
without being born
of water and the Spirit.
Humans can reproduce
only human life, but
the Holy Spirit gives birth
to spiritual life.
So don’t be surprised
when I say,
‘You must be born again.’
John 3:5-7
In these moments we make ourselves available to be filled up with Your Holy Spirit. If we’ve never invited You into our lives we do that now. Come and forgive us and bring the deadness of our spirit alive. You are the God of life and in You we live and move and have our being. No matter how long we’ve been walking with You God, we reaffirm our commitment to turning away from useless things and putting our full trust in You today.
In Your grace we know we will begin to think and feel differently and out of the life flowing from your Spirit to ours we will then choose and behave in new ways. Thank You for the gift of this day and Your Spirit and the life we have in You. Amen
