Prayer To the God Who Continually Loves and Cares For Us

Continually
There is nothing like getting up in the morning and beginning the day with words like:
The goodness of God endures continually.
Psalm 52
Psalm 52
So few words and yet such great comfort. I can feel the smile in my soul as soon as those words touch it.
We live in quickly changing times. When we look back over the last decade or so in our wider society at the social change and the technology change, and so on, we have to acknowledge that the change has been dramatic.
I look at the picture of this weather worn fence that’s doing the job even though it’s a bit rickety!!! How much longer can it last and still be effective? Sometimes that’s how we feel isn’t it? That’s where the steadiness and the consistency of our God comes along and make such a difference.
I always find great comfort in those things that have remain steady during unsteady times and which will take us forward in whatever the future holds.
I did a little word search with the word “continually” and we’ll pray today on just a few of the rich promises and instructions that God speaks to us today that use this word.
We pray
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.
1 Chronicles 16:11
Heavenly father, we come to you today as your word instructs us to seek the Lord and his strength: see his presence continually. Lord we long to live conscious of your presence today, as we pray for knowledge of your will and the power to carry it out.
The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you’re dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well watered garden, like an ever flowing spring.
Isaiah 58:11
Thank you for your lovely promise to continually refresh us. As the prophet Isaiah reminds us the Lord will guide you continually giving you water when you’re dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well watered garden, like an ever flowing spring. Oh, just hearing those words seems to bring refreshing and we thank you that no matter what we face in this day and going forward we can trust, not in our own strength, but in your promise to continually renew us and refresh us and make us strong.
Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress
Psalm 71:3
You know that we live in troubled times. Thank you for the comfort we live in today knowing that you are to us a rock of refuge to which we may continually come; you’ve given the command to save us for you are our rock and our fortress. We need safe places. We need places of peace. We need to be able to lean on the strength that is greater than our own. We thank you that as we come to you, we always find that.
Through him let us continually offer up the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
Hebrews 13:15
We pray today God, to be people of consistency ourselves. Help us to walk each day with gratitude and praise for all the things that you do, for all the ways we see you being faithful to be who you say that you are, and for all the blessings and help that you pour into our lives in such a variety of ways. It is in your name, with your authority, that we are able to speak life to ourselves and over others. The powers of darkness and evil are no competition for the power of your name. Lord Jesus Christ we thank you that at your name every knee must bow and every tongue must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the father. One day everyone will do that, but God would you help us in this day to be those who lead the way.
We also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work and you believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
We thank you for the opportunities you’ve given us to give a witness to your goodness and your faithfulness. We thank you for those who are responding to the truth of your word. No matter what reaction we get, we pray that you will help us to be kind and clear speakers of truth today as we share the message that you are the God who has come to earth to rescue us and to make a way for us to live in loving relationship with you forever through Jesus Christ.
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the spirit gives
Colossians 1:9
So Lord, both for ourselves and for others we continually ask you to fill us with the knowledge of your will to all the wisdom and understanding that the Holy Spirit gives. We need that today. We welcome that today. We take refuge in your willingness to consistently pour that into us today. We look forward to the wonderful day that you have ahead of us because your promise is:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
