KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. Psalm 46:10
It's very common for me to stop and allow myself to be drawn to a place of peace and rest with the first part of this verse. We are all longing for a quiet heart aren't we during these turbulent and stressful times. With leaders having their fingers on the buttons to enact tighter restrictions due to rising COVID-19 numbers and all the impact that will have on us and on others that we love - whether worries about health or finances or mental health or whatever - the invitation to pause, be still and remember that God is still God. He's still the one who knows all the details and who has a good plan for us as we go through this difficult time. Not only does He have a plan but He is a God who is with us so we don't have to go through all this alone.
So, all of that is something that I love and am happy to be reminded to do today. But, I was drawn to the other parts of that verse today - the bits about God will be honoured by every nation and throughout the world. We certainly do not live in a time where the existence of God is even admitted to by many leaders and citizens of many countries. And even in the places where people give lip service to God in countries that would identify as Christian nations, there's often not much honouring of God, His ultimate wisdom, His commands, and His place as described in the Bible so often as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords."
Today we pray for change to come in all our hearts so we would be among those who honour God as He deserves.
Loving God, we are so grateful that we can come to You and find peace and rest in the truth that You are God, You are in control, You are with us, You are powerfully working in all things so that good ultimately triumphs over evil.
On his robe and on his thigh He has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
Revelation 19:16
We do want to honour You as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords that You are. We don't want to wait until we join the choir in heaven to affirm this but we want to give you praise and honour today because you deserve it.
For the LORD your God is God of Gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.
Deuteronomy 10:17
We find security and peace in knowing that You are great and mighty and awesome. We're so grateful that You are who You are and You stick with Your plans no matter who or what tries to counter Your plans or try to bribe You or sweet talk You into doing what they want. You are not interested in the politically expedient thing to do today, You are committed to doing the right thing. what a refreshing difference to what we see in so many places.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever
Psalm 136:3
You act with love always and Your love is steadfast and unfailing. We need that reminder today when so many things seem threatening to our physical and mental health and our livelihood and our way of life
The king answered and said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.”
Daniel 2:27
Thousands of years ago a pagan king acknowledged You for who you are in the presence of Daniel as You showed Your wisdom and Your power to him through Daniel. We pray today that we too would be faithful witnesses for You no matter what anyone around us says or thinks. What is true is still what is true no matter who does or doesn't believe it.
And now Lord we simply finish this small prayer affirming what the Bible says and what is being said in heaven today even though we can't hear it with our ears.
At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:10-11
Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
