Prayer To Meet Conspiracy Theories Like Qanon With Grace and Truth

COMMITMENT

We spoke yesterday about producing the monthly meditation booklets and paper jams.  Many of you know that we have compiled a year’s worth of these meditations into a book that’s available on Amazon wherever in the world you live.  “Life With God In Recovery Daily Meditations.”

I found it interesting that as I was reading the meditation a couple of days ago on commitment, a notification came across my phone that directed me to an article about how marriages and families are being negatively impacted by Qanon conspiracy theories. This was the headline in one of our national newspapers:  'It is heartbreaking': Families, marriages, splinter as Canadians embrace bizarre QAnon 'cult'

Commitment is asked of us in numerous areas throughout our lives:  marriage vows, appointments, work, volunteer jobs, friendships, contracts, bill paying, promises made to parents or children, getting to work or school on time, etc.  and it takes takes effort – especially during this time of the pandemic.  Despite the challenges, God invites us to live a satisfying life by making and honoring healthy commitments.

So trust in the Lord and do good.  Live on your land and be dependable. Enjoy serving the Lord, and he will give you whatever you ask for. Depend on the Lord.  Trust in him, and he will help you. He will make it as clear as day that you are right. Everyone will see that you are being fair. Trust in the Lord and wait quietly for his help.  Psalm 37:3-7a

And so we pray, loving God to trust You and do good.  We pray today to be faithful to you and to those who are in our care.  You promise to help us in all of this and You are faithful to Your promises.  We’ve proved that time and time again  Thank you so much.  Fill us now with Your Holy Spirit so in difficult times as well as in the good, we honour our commitments no matter how inconvenient.  You are able to give us discernment to know how to navigate this during challenging times but that’s what we are asking for.

No matter how much pandemic fatigue we are feeling today, we pray to stay the course and care for ourselves and others by honouring health and safety regulations.  Lord, these are simple practices and small deprivations we can give that protect so many others.

We live in a world and a time that says, “Me first.” But you ask something quite different from us.  You ask us to be with each other in love through good times and bad.  You invite us to wait patiently for things to work out.

May you commit your lives completely to the Lord our God. May you live by his rules. May you obey his commands. May you always do as you are doing now. 1 Kings 8:61

So Lord today, even when we don’t see it, help us to remember that You are working for good in all things when we follow Your will. Whether it means remaining in a job even though there are some relationship issues or learning how to lovingly disagree with a family member who is caught up in these conspiracy theory angry lies, help us, we pray.  For some of us the commitment is challenging as we try to maintain a recovery program without many of the supports we know really help.  Or maybe it’s the other side of the coin where we don’t like the advice and suggestions we’ve been given that has proven helpful to others in recovery –

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

help us to humbly listen to You and to those who are seeking to help us and do the next right thing whether we fully understand why or not.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8

Heavenly Father, we want to trust Your plan today and follow You with all our heart.  Help us to humble ourselves, wait patiently when that is requires, and most of all to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.  Just one more day, just today.  Help us to remain committed.  Amen
