Prayer To Welcome A New Administration To Our Hearts and Lives

TRANSITION OF POWER

Well, the news of the last 24 hours has been about how the transition of power has finally begun in the United States from the administration of President Donald Trump to that of president-Elect Joe Biden.  I’m not going to rehearse all the ups and downs of events from the election in early November.  We’ve heard it more times than we wish on the evening news around the world.

What it does serve to help us consider today is where the power in our lives rests and what administration is in charge.

Regardless of what Donald Trump thought, said, or even filed in a court of law, nothing changed the fact that more voters in more states voted for Joe Biden than for him and the electoral college vote spread just kept widening with states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania being won by Mr. Biden.  All the votes were cast by November 4 and while it took some time for some of them to be counted so we knew the result, the action had been done.

2000 years ago Jesus Christ came into human history – we’re going to celebrate his birth a month from today.  His sole purpose was to offer a new administration for our lives and for the world. His birth, death, and resurrection were clearly foretold hundreds of years before they took place and He promises to give new life to any who would believe – a life now that is better than any we could have on our own and life with God forever in eternity.

Here’s how John’s Gospel in the Bible reminds us of the facts:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:1-4

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. John 1:9-10

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.  John 1:11-13

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.  John 1:14

We thank You God, for the new administration for our lives that You provided for us in Jesus Christ.  There’s nothing in our life that is worth anything outside of Him.  True life is in Jesus and we both thank You for that today and celebrate the fact.  We are alive because He is alive.

Today God we want to pray for those who don’t know that this change is available to them – this move from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light – this change from death to life.  As surely as the details of this election in United States has gone out to the ends of the earth, so we pray that the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ would also go out to every nation, every language group, every person.

We pray for acceptance of the truth of the Gospel and appropriate action to be taken as the Good News reaches hearts.  Lord, too many of us hear facts but never really relinquish administration of our hearts and our activities to the Living God.  We’re like the administration in the White House that surely sees the “writing on the wall” but we still want to carry on the way we want to carry on.  We want to stay in charge of our own lives.  Forgive us Lord and help us see the absurdity of our thinking and acting.  Lord, help us to stand up for reality and welcome You to come in and rule in our hearts and lives.  We want not just Your ideas and suggestions but we want all the laws that can be enacted on our behalf to take effect so the evil one no longer has power over us.

We lay down our own control.  We move out of the power seat and we invite You God to take up Your proper place of authority in us for now and forever.  You are the Lord  You are filled with grace and truth and there’s nothing we want more than to have You live that in us and through us, Lord Jesus.  Help us to do that.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9

You have said that if we declare …    so we do that today with great thanks for who You are and all You give to us.  Amen

Well, Inaugeration Day in United States is one of great joy and celebration.  Let’s us make this our inauguration day of the power of God having full power over us again and going forward.
