A Prayer To See How God Is Doing The Right Thing At The Right Time In Our Lives
December 19 – 6 days until Christmas
This is Christmas 2020 in the middle of the ongoing pandemic. What a time we are living in. God knows all about time. He does what is right at just the right time and is willing to even communicate with us what He is doing. Think about this:
…The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us’. Isaiah 7:14
This was a promise God gave to His people hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus. At just the right time, this promise was fulfilled. From many other scriptures recorded in the Bible, we have solid evidence that God has set a time for each of His plans to be fulfilled. He will neither be too late nor too early. God will act at just the right time.
All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:22-23
In the Bible God has given us many examples of patience and timeliness on which we can reflect during what seem like endless months of this pandemic with still so much more time to go before enough people are vaccinated for the general population to be able to mingle and go about business as usual again.
What has God said? God has promised to gather His faithful people to Himself and wipe away every tear from their eyes. He patiently waits for us to come to Him and surrender our lives of selfishness and sin. He won't wait forever, but He is waiting until the season of invitation is complete.
Jesus was born at God's designated time. As we’ve been reflecting on the past few days, Jesus took upon Himself the deserved punishment for our sins and died for us. At just the right time Jesus opened the door to God's saving grace so that we would be ready when He comes again for us to spend eternity with Him.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly." Romans 5:6
Today is a good time to reflect on God's promises in the Bible and remind ourselves that, at just the right time, God will bring them all to pass for simple trusting people like us.
Loving God, Help us to believe and trust that at just the right time You will make perfect all that concerns us. Help us to be patient and trusting in the meantime. Help us to learn from Your people who waited for hundreds of years from the time You signaled that Jesus would be born until His birth actually took place in Bethlehem.
Your purposes are carried out not a moment too soon nor a moment too late. At just the right time all these things take place.
So Lord today, our simple prayer is to live in trust that “at just the right time” all those things that need doing in us and around us will come to pass.
You know how much we long for this pandemic to be over and some semblance of normalcy to return to our daily living. We long to see our loved ones and to spend time together. Help us to patiently wait through these Christmas celebration days so we can be healthy and come together safely and with joy in just a few more weeks. We don’t like being physically distant at such important times but we pray for grace to do the right thing.
The Second coming of Jesus for which we’ve been waiting since He ascended back into heaven also seems a long time coming but we know that You know the right time for that to take place. In between now and then, we pray to be watchful, faithful, and trusting. You are the God who speaks and who fulfills His word at just the right time.
While we await whatever Christmas gathering we can be a part of this year and Your return in glory, Lord Jesus, we pray with children who have prayed for generations: Into my heart, into my heart, come into my heart Lord Jesus. Come in today. Come in to stay. Come into my heart Lord Jesus. And we know the right time for that to take place is right here and right now. Amen
