Prayer For Those Who Work In Science andTo Trust The God Who Is Over Them All
The world was applauding the other day when a rocket took more than 100 satellites into space and safely landed back on earth. I forget the exact number but it was a record number of satellites.
We all need to be applauding our creator, God – the one who gives and who sustains life. I’m grateful and I’m sure you are too for researchers and scientists who are accomplishing great things that seem to contribute to our understanding of life to some degree and add to our comfort from day to day.
We’ve heard so much about science over the months of this pandemic and of politicians needing to follow the science. My prayer today is that scientists would follow their creator and in humility seek to understand how God has put things together as they come to new understandings about things like the wideness of space and tiny things like this virus.
We continue to need more vaccines to combat the virus. For the next couple of weeks we won’t be receiving hardly any vaccine here in British Columbia from companies like Pfizer and Moderna. We pray they will be successful in ramping up their production capabilities and also that other companies will gather enough data to make their vaccines available as well.
All of these things are guided under the caring hand of our God, whether we are willing to admit that or not.
A couple of the Psalms seek to remind us of this:
Know that the Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him. We are his people, the sheep he takes care of. Come through the gates to his Temple giving thanks to him. Enter his courtyards with songs of praise. Honor him and bless his name. The Lord is good! There is no end to his faithful love. We can trust him forever and ever! Psalm 100:3-5
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Psalm 24:1
Heavenly father, we are so grateful to know you today. We are grateful that you are God and you are in control. You made the earth. You made us. You created everything to operate in perfect balance and it breaks Your heart much more than our own, as You see people You love suffer.
When the evil one tries to steal, kill, and destroy the life that you intend for each of us, you stand with us to breathe new life, to support us with your love and kindness, and to remind us that no matter how difficult today is, we can still have life with you forever because of what Jesus has done for us. These are days that remind us just how fragile we are as human beings on this earth for a few short years and yet how precious we are to You.
The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass like wildflowers, we bloom and die. Psalm 103:13-15
We want to particularly bless the scientists and research people who are working hard to find more effective treatments and vaccine. We thank you for progress that’s been made over these months in labs and hospitals. We thank you for vaccines rolling out across the world. Bless all those who are involved in vaccination programs. Help them to do their jobs well. But underneath it all, we today want to acknowledge You are the creator of all, the giver of all wisdom. You are the one with all the scientific information we need and the generous heart to share it because You care for us.
We want to bless manufacturers who are producing vaccines, pilots, truck drivers etc. who are transporting the vaccines around the world, those who are working in warehouses and clinics. Protect each of them as they go out into the community to perform these important tasks. Help them to be efficient and all systems to work even better than imagined so these supplies get into the right hands quickly.
Once again today in the middle of the awfulness of this pandemic we come to you and affirm that you are good, that you care for us that there’s no end to your faithful love, and that we can trust you forever and ever. Amen
