Prayer To Hear And Respond To What God Is Communicating To Us Today

We hear so much these days about possible impeachment procedures against the president of United States due to things he has said and did and the storming of the Capital building in Washington DC by protesters last week.


Social media platforms have limited President Trump’s presence and ability to pass messages. Many have commented about how powerfully the president was able to use things like Twitter to communicate his message to many and the danger it could be in these days to let it continue.

We have a very positive example of the use of communication for uplifting and life-changing ways in the Bible. Listen to these words

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:1-3

I think today is a good day to pray for wisdom grace for those who are making decisions in various political offices and also to give thanks to God for his son Jesus who so clearly shows us God’s heart for us.  In response, let’s offer our lives in worship and service to him today

Let’s pray:

Thank you Heavenly Father that through prophets and wise pastors and teachers among us in many ways and at many times you’ve spoken to us about yourself. But thank you that you were so longing that we would know the depth of your love for us that you sent Jesus. We’re grateful for the life of Jesus who showed us the generosity of your forgiveness and your healing to all who came to him. We are especially grateful today for the death and resurrection of Jesus because it is through that amazing sacrifice that we are able to be purified from all our sin and have a loving relationship with You that endures forever.

In the middle of these challenging days, not only of the pandemic but also of social unrest, we are grateful to know that you are in control. We thank you that you are seated, Lord Jesus, at the right hand of the majesty in heaven. You are superior to all others and your word and your purposes and your plans are faithfully being carried forward today.

I think today Lord of the effect of wind on the surface of water and how waves come and go and even batter shorelines, but underneath is the steadiness of the water that gives life. You Lord are in control of the weather systems that that water has such a great impact on. We’re grateful that there are so many more ways that you are exercising grace and kindness and control that we cannot see. Behind-the-scenes you are and always will be the Lord of events. People will make choices and do things just like the wind ruffles the surface of the water, the Lord your purposes and your heart will prevail.

It gives us great peace and stability today and we want to thank you for that. We want to put ourselves in your care again today and be reminded that we are responsible for what we say and do and how we respond and react to things going on around us. Would you give us hearts and minds that see the good as you want us to see the good and with wisdom and grace accept others as they are, praying for them that they will become more and more like you. Dear Lord, make us more a praying people than a criticizing and condemning people, no matter how bleak the circumstances are that we are observing. Help us to apply the effective filter for thinking that you have given to us:

Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

Let that be the structure of our day because we know that you Lord Jesus have us in Your loving care. Amen

Well it will be interesting to see how things play out politically this week but I do pray that we won’t be too distracted by it all because there is a higher power who is taking us forward as we surrender our lives to him. Let’s do that today. Have a great day.
