Praying To Put On The Help And Protection God Is Offering Us Today
Quite a few months ago we took this time to remember the armor God has told us to put on each day. The attacks on us physically, emotionally, and spiritually certainly haven’t let us since then so let’s renew our joy and our trust in God by putting on these important pieces of equipment to protect us and take us through this day.
Let’s pray:
Thank you God for another day to live, to know Your goodness in our lives, and to serve You. We want the witness of how we go through this time of the COVID-19 pandemic to show what a difference it makes that we belong to You and that You are reliable to care for us and to get us through.
Even though we can get tired and feel like what's going on is pressuring us and even bringing us suffering, God we want to push through and live to please You. Each of our circumstances are different but we know that You understand us and exactly what we are going through and so we simply ask You to help us know how to stay simple and focused and committed to the task that You have for us today.
Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. 2 Timothy 2:1-7
Thank you for all the help you give us. For many years people have prayed and put on spiritual armor that you give us and so we'll do that for ourselves again today.
1. God, we put on the helmet of salvation to guard our minds. Guard what we think, hear, see and speak. We choose to take every thought captive and make it your Word. Today we renounce all obsessions, all negative thoughts. We declare today that we have the mind of Christ.
2. We put on the breastplate of righteousness to guard our heart, our will, and our emotions. We will live right today and do good because the blood of Jesus washes us clean. We can respond to all circumstances and people with love and truth because God’s love protects us.
3. Jesus, today we wrap truth around us like a belt. You are the way, the truth and the life. Satan is a liar. Today we choose to believe we are daughters and sons of God. We have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus. We have been healed by His sacrifice on the cross. We have been filled with the Holy Spirit and today we will live a strong and successful life according to the Word of God which is truth.
4. Lord, today wherever our feet take us, we will share the good news of Jesus. By our words and actions we will show that You Jesus makes a difference in the lives of broken and hurting people and bring them peace.
5. Jesus, today we take up the shield of faith which will, stop every negative thought the enemy will throw at us. God is with us. God is in control. We have nothing to fear. Lord, you are the only true and living God and our faith is secure in You. You love us. You will keep us safe. We will live by faith and not simply by our feelings.
6. Lord, today we take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. We will use our words with caution so as not to harm ourselves or others. We will use our words effectively to tear down lies and curses, fear and shame, and all other negative effects of Satan’s words in our lives past, present, or future.
Well Lord, we began this prayer with words from 2 Timothy and in gratitude we end with similar words. Some soldiers die in battle and we're encouraged that even if we suffer hardship or even death, still if we stand with you, You will stand with us.
If we die with him, we will also live with him. If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is. 2 Timothy 2:11-13
Thank you also for the reality that even though we sometimes waver and are unfaithful to You, You are always faithful to us. We can face today know that to be true. Amen
