If we’ve learned one thing in these long months of the pandemic it’s that it’s difficult to face pain and need in our lives – and to do so over a prolonged period of time.
pandemic.
All along God has been there inviting us to take a leap of faith and not avoid problems and pain but rather to bring them to Him, seek His solutions and follow His guidance. I’m often brought back to these familiar words of Jesus:
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
I wonder today, with all the troubles that surround us and that have been with us so long, how do we feel about approaching God and telling Him all about it? Do we think it’s unnecessary because He already knows or maybe useless because He’s not stopped the spread of the virus? Do we think that maybe we’re not all that important to Him – we’re too small, too insignificant? What holds us back from bringing all that’s going on in our hearts and our world to God today?
I find it comforting and I hope you do too, to be reminded again today that IN OUR TIME OF NEED God invites us to come boldly to Him and we will get the help He is so ready to give.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16
We’ve said it many times before, but God never promised us a life without problems but He did promise to be with us and help us overcome whatever we face. That’s why we come to Him today in the middle of our troubled times.
Heavenly Father, we don’t feel like we have much choice about what’s gone on both with the pandemic in our community and it’s impact on our personal lives. It really does stretch our faith sometimes to believe that You are with us, that You care, and that You are actively working on our behalf, working all things for good. We feel a bit out of control and that our individual personal lives don’t seem to mean all that much in the great scheme of things.
It takes a leap of faith to change our thought patterns and behaviour to match what You says. But we want to do that. We are coming to you today, calling out to You trusting that You are near to us. We turn from our ways of trying to control things on our own and surrender our will and our lives into your care. We need the mercy that is promised to us when we do.
Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. Isaiah 55:6-7
Help us to take a leap of faith and apply Your solutions to the pain and need in our lives. Build our lives on a solid foundation based on Your Word as recorded in the Bible. Give us willing hearts to go Your way today. Amen
