Praying The Promises of God With Joy and Trust

Tuesday July 27, 2021

It’s been a while since we looked at the promises of God and were encouraged and strengthened by them.

The Bible is full of God's promises to help us in our time of need.  Various people have counted how many promises from God we can find in the Bible and it’s somewhere around 8,000.  That’s about 22 different promises for each day of the year.  The wonderful thing is that all God’s promises are true for each day of the year, so we have 8,000 promises available to us today.

He has also given us his very great and valuable promises.  He did it so you could share in his nature. You can share in it because you’ve escaped from the evil in the world. This evil is caused by sinful desires.  2 Peter 1:4

If we were told we have inherited money through the will of a deceased person we would need to get a copy of the will and read it.  If we meet the criteria outlined, we may claim what has been gifted to us.  In order to claim the promises of God we need to read the details of our inheritance as recorded in the Word of God.  Then as we meet God’s criteria, we can claim every promise.

Thank you God for so many wonderful promises that belong to us as we put our faith and trust in You today.  You promise us wisdom when You say:

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  James 1:5

So God, help us to stop regularly through this day to ask You for wisdom with what we are thinking about or planning.  Help us to have the humility to acknowledge that we are not smart enough to figure things out on our own.  You know everything.  You know what is best.  You are more than willing to give us helpful guidance when we ask.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Joshua 1:9, Deuteronomy 31:8

God, You are aware that our natural response to challenges and problems is not strength and bravery.  It is only in You that we find courage and perseverance and comfort to face what we need to face.  We are so grateful that we are not alone.  We have You, the God of infinite power, with us to solve whatever needs solving and to just be that reassuring companion who takes care of us through whatever we encounter.

Thank You for not just promising to be with us in our time of need but showing us over and over again that You are true to Your word.  We don’t know what our future holds, even the rest of this day, but You do, and so we ask You to fill us with Your peace and the courage as we move through our day.

But if you listen to me, you will be safe and secure without fear of disaster.  Proverbs 1:33

We are all longing to live with the peace that comes from knowing we are safe and secure without fear of disaster.  You’ve promised that if we will listen to You, we’ll have that.  We know that means we need to not just hear what you are saying but actually walk it out.  Help us to do that.  When we slip, when we find ourselves fearful, help us to check where we failed to check in with you and hear what You were saying or failed to follow Your ways.

The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.  Psalm 37:23-24

Well Lord, a few simple promises out of more than 8000 and what strength they give us for today.  Help us to mine this amazing store of treasures and find everything we need in Your promises.  Amen

Have a great day living with God and enjoying all the good things He has promised to us today.
