Prayer To Grow Well In All Ways

 Growing is something that is evident as kids and families have a look at the clothes for the new school year.  Feet don’t fit in shoes anymore.  Shirts and jeans no longer fit.  Growing is wonderful but also presents challenges, doesn’t it? 

Perhaps we can remember as teenagers how difficult it was to listen to our parents and do what they said rather than doing what we wanted to do or what our peers suggested.  But, if we are well emotionally and spiritually we will mature and grow in wisdom and grace as time goes along.

Growing in godliness is also challenging.  We need to get to know the God who takes care of us and to whom we have committed our will and life.  We need to learn how to walk and talk and behave as people of God.  We need to devote ourselves to doing the will of God rather than doing what is right in our own eyes or in the eyes of our culture.

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. 2 Peter 1:12

To live a full and meaningful life with the Power that is greater than ourselves, we need to be assured that this God has given us everything we need for life and godliness.  We need to be convinced that our future is guided by the One who knows the way forward.  Staying close to our Guide will give us the opportunity to better know the God who loves and cares for us and enables us to avoid giving in to temptation. 

We come back to these verses often but they are such a helpful reminder and summary that God has given us everything we need so we can grow up in every good way.

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.  2 Peter 1:2-3

Heavenly Father, we want to make healthy choices which lead to a godly life.  We want to learn and grow so we will know the kindness and peace. You give that which cannot be bought with silver or gold, but which comes with the wholehearted giving of our will and life over to Your care in every set of circumstances.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 

2 Peter 3:18

We need to understand and recognize more and more that You are an amazing generous and kind God and that Your ways always work.  We know that we grow in knowledge and wisdom when we honour You and follow your ways so help us to do that carefully and fully.

Help us to grow in our knowledge of Jesus who gave His life so that we might be free from sin and enabled to live a Godly life today and every day going forward.  Amen
