A Prayer For Help To Just Do The Next Right Thing

 JUST DO THE NEXT RIGHT THING

When daily circumstances feel overwhelming and confusing, one way we can overcome our anxiety is by simply telling ourselves to, “Just do the next right thing.”  This helps us to stay on track while we figure out what’s really going on and what we need to do about it.

The Bible is full of simple summaries of what “the next right thing” is for us in each situation.  One of my favourites is:

O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8

Whatever else is going on I can ask God to show me and then do what seems right, what is kind and merciful, and what is demonstrating humility before God. 

As we seek God, He will give us directions as we read the scriptures.  The Holy Spirit will help us understand what we read and will encourage us to apply what we are being taught to our life situations.  Whenever we call out to God and ask for courage to do what is right, He is ready to help

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.  2 Timothy 3:16

Jesus taught us to love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind and to love others as ourselves.  These are the two principles on which everything else is based.  This is a good place to start when we don’t know what else to do and we simply must try to “do the next right thing.”

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, Thank you for keeping things simple for us.  In moments of panic or temptation we don’t have to figure out what is really going on.  We can simply tell ourselves to do the next right thing.  We’re so grateful God, that You are with us to help us do what’s right in the moment and also to sort things out that need sorting.  Help us to stay focused on taking positive steps, one step at a time, trusting Your guidance as we do.  Amen
