GETTING IT RIGHT BY ADMITTING WE ARE WRONG

I don’t know of anyone who finds it easy to admit they are wrong but telling ourselves and others the truth, even when we are mistaken, is such a helpful tool in growing and moving forward in life.

When we have a problem we need take responsibility for our part in that problem.  Telling the truth helps to bring clarity, order, and peace to the situation.  There is great power in truthfully acknowledging the things that have gone wrong in our life and asking for help to sort out what needs changing.

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.  Proverbs 28:13

One of the greatest lies we tell ourselves when things go wrong is that our problems are caused by what is around us rather than what is within us.  Until we properly identify the problem things will only get worse.

We also don’t have things right when we think we should sort things out and solve problems based on our own understanding rather than seeking advice and help from others.  This so often only creates greater problems for ourselves and those around us.

Our greatest source of wisdom and accountability is God’s word.  Whenever what we are believing, saying, or doing goes against what the Bible says, we are wrong and we do well to admit that as quickly as possible.

In the Bible we read these helpful words:

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.  I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations.  I have suffered much, O Lord; restore my life again as you promised. Psalm 119:105-107

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, we admit that too often we get into trouble by failing to admit that we are wrong.  We make both honest mistakes and those that come when we are stubborn and just self-centered.  Forgive us Lord for our arrogance of thinking we and we alone know what it right even when it goes against what You say and what wise people around us are trying to teach us.  Give us humility and grace to admit our mistakes and the willingness to take action that shows our desire to turn around and go in the right direction.  Teach us how to live in peace with You and others.  Amen

Let’s have a great day finding freedom by living in the truth, even when that means admitting we are wrong.
