Prayer To Resolve Unrealistic Expectations

 UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

Over and over again unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment and as we journey though this pandemic, lead us to sometimes act either too quickly or too slowly to do what’s needed for our own health or to contribute to all of us getting through this time with the least amount of risk.

All complicated issues take time to sort out and some areas will change while other problematic areas will take a bit more time and attention.  When we have God with us, though, we have the assurance that whatever God has begun in us, He will bring all His love and power and wisdom to bear on the issues of our life until things are completely sorted out.  What a relief that is.

I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.  Philippians 1:6

One unrealistic expectation we often hold is the speed with which we want change and complete resolution of issues to come.  We need to find the willingness to move at the pace God has in mind for us as we journey through whatever we are facing these days.

Truthfully, we don’t know enough to know all that’s needing to be exposed, worked through, linked together etc. in order to bring about safe and lasting change.  But as we trust God to work in us and in all these situations we will experience peace and begin to notice change that might even surprise us.

For I am about to do something new.  See, I have already begun!  Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness.  I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:19

Heavenly Father,  We’re so glad we don’t have to pretend that we don’t feel vulnerable in this journey.  It’s so amazing that You are aware of all that we face.  Thank You for your generous offer to care for us and give us peace in our hearts.  As we bring our worries, our wonderings, even our disappointments and frustrations to You in prayer, will You please help us to  settle down and just trust who You are and what You have said You will do and are doing on our behalf.  Fill us with Your peace as Your Word promises us:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Amen
