How can a person become complete in God lacking nothing? Circumstances that are happening around us often add to what is already happening inside us.
Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever overstuffed a cupboard? It was already packed but there you were with something more that needed to find a home. We can try to stuff it in but all too often some stuff will spill out all over the place because the cupboard is not equipped to contain everything we are trying to get in.
Our minds are like that. We have already stored our life-to-date happenings. We need to clear out some of the old before we can add the new, otherwise confusion will result, and life will become unmanageable. Here’s what God’s Word says:
So get rid of all that is wrong in your life, both inside and outside, and humbly be glad for the wonderful message we have received, for it is able to save our souls as it takes hold of our hearts. James 1:21
To be complete in God we need to work on getting rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behaviour that we have been exhibiting. Life’s hurts may have intensified our behaviour, but God wants us to forgive those who have harmed us and instead, be kind and compassionate towards them, just as He has been towards us.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
Heavenly Father, We know that when we have cleared out some of the old behaviours we can then replace them with the new lifegiving behaviours that will draw us closer to You. Would You help us in this regard today? We want to have daily conscious contact with You, keep a regular and up-to-date personal inventory and be honest about what is causing us confusion and harm.
God, we know that You want us to be complete, lacking nothing, but we also know that we need to be willing to have faith in Your word and practice Your principles in all our affairs. That’s where we’re asking for Your help today. Fill up our desire for what is right. Fill up our willingness to put what we know to do into practice. Give us perseverance to continue in what You’ve shown us so we become everything You have in mind for us. Amen
