PRAYING TO LOOK AROUND AND BE INFORMED
LOOK AROUND AND BE INFORMED
Yesterday we were asking ourselves what we were looking at that was turning the light of God in us to darkness.
Jesus doesn’t just tell us what NOT to look at, but He gives us wonderful things to see. Listen to these familiar words:
Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? Matthew 6: 26-30
So, when is the last time we paused and took a moment to look at the birds? There are so many more around now with the warmer sunnier days. What I think about today though are the little birds I see flying around when there is snow on the ground. How do they live? How do they stay warm? And yet our Heavenly Father wants us to know that whether we live in easy times or vulnerable days, we don’t need to worry when we are in His care.
Everything is growing. Whether it is the dandelions in the grass, the new vegetable shoots in the community garden beds we see, or even things grown on a massive scale inside acres and acres of greenhouse glass, things are growing. None of us has the ability to make those seeds germinate and reproduce into flowers and food. God has programmed them to do that. We can help things along with water and fertilizer but only God gives reproduction and growth.
Lord, help us to take a moment today to look at the birds and the flowers and as we do to remember that we are in Your care today. We can let go of our worries and stresses because You are watching us. You are giving us what we need today as we walk with You and trust Your kind and generous heart towards us.
Help us to not only see the birds and flowers today but to also see You and to entrust our hearts and our circumstances to You once again. Help us to enter into the joy and rest that You intend for us today. Your care for us is truly wonderful and we thank You for it.
