Walking With God Prayers
We are looking these days at taking steps to get closer to God, using the model of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
On this Sunday, I thought we’d pray about what it means to walk with God each day.
Some of the most famous are probably these words:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
So Lord, as the days of another month wane yet again, we thank You that we don’t have to walk today on our own. You created us to walk with You and that’s what we want to commit ourselves to and take action of make it real for us in this day. We want to trust You every step of the way and leave our own limited and distorted understanding of life behind. Each step of the way today we want to remember that You are with us and actively seek Your guidance about what to say and do. We trust You to show us a straight path forward. Amen
And words we come to often here together that keep it simple for us:
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
You don’t make things difficult for us God. You call us to what is good and right. Help us to slow down and settle into a place where we can clearly hear Your kind voice at every point today. Help us to look for what is just, what is kind, and Your presence in it all. Thank You for a good life we can experience every day. Amen
God makes many wonderful promises to us when we walk with Him:
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. Psalm 56:13
Without Your help, God, we’d stumble and fall and never be able to get back up but we’re so grateful to have Your assurance that when we walk in Your light, even though we will surely get some things wrong, You will forgive us and cleanse us as we confess our sins to You and rely on what Jesus won for us on the cross.
Thank you for bringing us out of darkness into Your wonderful light. We want to live there, to celebrate there with our brothers and sisters, and most of all to enjoy Your presence with us today. Ame
