GOOD AND EVIL JUST DON'T MIX

Thursday August 4, 2022

Just like oil and water, good and evil just don’t mix.  One place where this principle is clearly seen is in our thought life.  We can’t think about things that are not good and hope to continue to walk well.

The Bible reminds us to:

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.

Ephesians 5:11

What are we thinking about?  Are we harboring irritable, hateful, or lustful thoughts?  We need to confess our dark thoughts and receive forgiveness.  We need to discipline ourselves and refocus our minds on God’s truth.

Are our beliefs, thoughts, and behaviours 100% in line with God’s word?  We can’t just ignore those parts of the Bible that are inconvenient.  In fact, ignoring the truth of God’s word drives us further and further into the chaos and destructive living.

God is light. There is no darkness in him at all.  Suppose we say that we share life with God but still walk in the darkness. Then we are lying. We are not living by the truth.

1 John 1:5, 6

Are we willing to forgive and treat everyone with respect, even those who have harmed us? Forgiveness is a choice, not a feeling.  God says holding resentments puts us in a place outside of love and goodness.  We can’t say we love God while we are hating someone else.  The two cannot exist together.

Anyone who says he loves God but in fact hates his brother or sister is a liar.

1 John 4:20

Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you.

Luke 6:27

Loving God, we agree with You today that good and evil, light and darkness, just don’t mix any more than oil and water.

We want no part of anything that leads us closer to evil. Expose any inclinations or thoughts or attitudes in us that are part of that kind of negative agenda.  Help us today to recognize our shortcomings and allow You to cleanse us and make any changes You identify as necessary in us.  You desire that we fully enter into the light of Your presence and experience Your goodness today and we want to do whatever it takes to live there.  Amen
