What's Essential

 ESSENTIALS

Today we want to think about what really matters so we can live well with contentment, experiencing all of our essential needs cared for by our loving God. 

The first encouraging reminder is that what we need in order to hold our lives together doesn’t depend on us!  Now that’s good news!!

The Bible explains:

The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command.

Hebrews 1:3a

We’re grateful today God to know that You exist, that Jesus has come to earth to show us how wonderful You are, and how He is steadily and powerfully sustaining life in us and around us. We can tap into that provision today at every point we have need.

We’re all going to bump into things that challenge us at various points in our day and so the second encouraging reminder is that with God we are promised success in meeting those challenges.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 4:4

We’re grateful today that we have guaranteed success because Jesus has given us His Spirit to come and live in us and that Spirit is greater than the power of anything being expressed around us.  As we rely onYour power in us, we are able to rise above every challenge. 

We don’t have to pretend that the way around us isn’t challenging and that it often feels like a dark valley.  From ancient times people of faith just like us have prayed: 

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23:6

That’s what matters – for today and for all time.  Loving God, help us to recognize and live with these essentials today.  Amen
