LIVING IN RESPONSE TO GOD’S CALL

There’s an amazing story in the Bible we often think about around Christmas but is worth our attention today, I think.  The mother of Jesus, Mary sang a song after she learned she would carry and give birth to Jesus, the promised Messiah.

In spite of all the unknowns, and even the massive problems that being unmarried and pregnant could bring her, she’s able to lift her eyes above those issues and see and rejoice in how God is at work in her life and beyond.

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”

Luke 1:38

And not only was she willing and ready to do God’s will but her attitude is something for us to follow as well.  Mary said:

“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed/For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.

Luke 1:46-49

God wants to do great things through our lives today.  Will we believe Him and allow Him to work in us in ways that bring His kind of greatness?

We give You thanks God, for who You are and who You are to us.  You are the one who takes notice of us.  Why that is, we’ll never quite understand but because You do, we are forever blessed and we thank You for that today.

Our circumstances are quite different from those of the Virgin Mary but still challenging for us.  As she lifted her heart to remember that You are the mighty God who had done great things for her, would You help us today to just pause and remember how You’ve also done great things for us.

You never let us down and You never will.  We can lean on You and find strength in You and watch You do amazing things on our behalf.

Give us faith today that, as ordinary as we are, that You have plans for good for us.  We want to live into those plans today.  Help us. Amen

Let me end with this life verse of mine that I pray is filled with meaning for you as well.

We are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good work that God prepared in advance for us to do

Ephesians 2:10
