What do we do with these words?
Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. Psalm 46:10
They are familiar to us. Many of us have memorized them but what do we actually DO when we read them?
It’s important for us to stop and allow ourselves to be drawn to a place of peace and rest. We are long for a quiet heart don’t we? Whether worries about health or finances or mental health or whatever - the invitation comes to us again today to pause, be still and remember that God is still God.
He's still the one who knows all the details and who has a good plan for us as we go challenging times. Not only does He have a plan but He is a God who is with us so we don't have to go through anything alone.
The second part of the verse is important as well, I think - the bits about God will be honoured by every nation and throughout the world.
We certainly do not live in a time where the existence of God is even admitted to by many leaders and citizens of many countries. And even in the places where people give lip service to God in countries that would identify as Christian nations,
there's often not much honouring of God, His ultimate wisdom, His commands, and His place as described in the Bible so often as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords."
Today we pray for change to come in all our hearts so we would be among those who honour God as He deserves.
Loving God, we are so grateful that we can come to You and find peace and rest in the truth that You are God, You are in control, You are with us, You are powerfully working in all things so that good ultimately triumphs over evil.
We do want to honour You as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords that You are. We don't want to wait until we join the choir in heaven to affirm this but we want to give you praise and honour today because you deserve it.
For the LORD your God is God of Gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.
Deuteronomy 10:17
We find security and peace in knowing that You are great and mighty and awesome. You act with love always and Your love is steadfast and unfailing. We need that reminder today when so many things seem threatening to our physical and mental health and our livelihood and our way of life.
And so we still and quiet our hearts and allow our hearts to be taught even more clearly that You are God, worthy of our love, our honour, our whole self. Amen
