What Does Lazy Look Like?
LAZY
A person who is lazy is unwilling to work hard or use energy on a task. They avoid a task, or are slow to get around to doing what they should.
None of us would like to be known as lazy but I wonder if we aren’t in some ways.
What’s the focus of my daily activities? The Bible tells us:
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.
Romans 12:11
How much of what I do is for my personal comfort or to gain the things I need? How much effort do I give to making time and giving effort to serving God and others as he directs? Am I a lazy follower of Jesus?
We all say that we want to improve our conscious contact with God and that we know that it is through praying and meditating in His Word that we do that effectively.
How much are we giving attention to what we are reading, taking time to ask God and listen for what he is trying to say to us through what we are reading? How much are we like this lazy person?
Lazy people take food in their hand but don’t even lift it to their mouth.
Proverbs 19:24
God has so many precious things to share with us so long as we are willing to be with Him and get to know Him, more than we seeking to simply “complete our daily meditation time.” Are we allowing the Word of God we hold in our hands to be lifted to our mouths and to feed us?
Loving God, we don’t want to beat ourselves over the head and we know that You are not asking us to be slaves in our efforts to know You and to serve You. We are Your beloved sons and daughters. But, I fear we sometimes take advantage of Your loving care and settle back because we just expect You to be good to us.
Forgive us for ways we live lazy and self-centered. Give us hearts that really long to know You and willingness to put our best efforts into that today and every day.
Help us to follow this instruction well today:
Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.
2 John 1:8
Let’s allow ourselves to be challenged to be all that we can be today in our love and service for God.
