CONFIDENCE IN GOD’S KINDNESS ON TOUGH DAYS

We spoke yesterday about waiting, but waiting with a difference – waiting patiently for God who will surely show up for us, lift us out of despair, out of muddy and miry circumstances, set our feet on a solid foundation and steady us as we walk forward.

Now there’s now doubt that it is difficult to do that when we are in those dark and difficult places but believe me, it’s worth the effort.  I can tell you that from personal experience.

Over and over again I’ve come to experience that God is God is fair.  God is faithful.  God powerfully saves.  God’s love is unfailing.  God does not hold back His tender mercies.  God protects over and over.

So there’s a confidence in God’s kindness and sure help that we can lean into as we call out to God.

Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me. Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me. For troubles surround me—too many to count! My sins pile up so high I can’t see my way out. They outnumber the hairs on my head. I have lost all courage. Please, Lord, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me.

Psalm 40:11-13

We are grateful God that You act on our behalf with tender mercy, with unfailing love, and with faithful protection.  You do that when troubles too many to count surround us and any number of them are the result of our own sins that, as the writer of the Psalm put it, are piled up so I can’t see my way out.

We’re so grateful that Your willingness to help us today isn’t based on us being upstanding and deserving folk.  We are far more desperate ones who have nothing but Your tender mercy to rely on.

And it’s on that basis that we dare to ask You to come and rescue us, to come quickly and help us.

Thank You for the assurance of Your promise that when we do just that, You will come to us.  You will fill us with joy.  You will act in ways that we can’t help but joyfully announce to others, “The Lord is great.”

As we read in this Psalm:

But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”

Psalm 40:16

But in these days, when we feel more poor and needy than strong and victorious, we’re simply asking You to remember us, to be our helper and our saviour, and show Yourself strong on our behalf without delay.

As for me, since I am poor and needy, let the Lord keep me in his thoughts. You are my helper and my savior. O my God, do not delay.

Psalm 40:17

Thank you for listening to our cry and for expressing Your tender mercy in our lives.  We surrender our will and our lives into Your care.  Amen
