Consulting The Expert Before Making Plans

We have schedule planning apps and note taking apps, and various other apps on our devices and computers to help us organize for what we want to see happen today, tomorrow, and ongoing.

We are reminded in God’s word that there is more to successful living than simply making personal plans.

Look here, you who say “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.”

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog - it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live, and do this, or that” otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.

James 4:13-16

So, the challenge for us today is to ask ourselves whether we have consulted God about what he wants for us today and what his thoughts about our actions today, tomorrow, and ongoing are.

Loving God, we are grateful for the opportunity and gift of this day. We know that you have created us to do good work which you have prepared in advance for us to do.

Help us to turn to you to find out what that work is so we can be involved in what is truly creative and what actually satisfies us and gives us great joy in this day.

We want to be responsible and make good plans that help us accomplish your purposes, but we pray to be those who take the time to actually seek your purposes before we make our plans.  Amen
