Recognizing Those Who Value Us

Wednesday November 9, 2022

How do we know that we matter to someone?  They don’t just tell us we matter – because we all know that words are pretty cheap – but they demonstrate that value in how they respond to us and act on our behalf.

I feel immense sadness these days as I listen to the news – particularly those reporting about economic circumstances, rises in interest rates that are being brought by national banks that are pretty much ensuring that there will be a recession in the coming months where people will lose their jobs and there will be hard times.

There is a whole group of people that seem “expendable,” whose pain has to be ignored in order for inflation to be brought under control and the economy to do well. There seem to be those in society that we value and others that, when it is inconvenient, we feel we can cast off and whose pain doesn’t matter to us.

Thankfully, we have a God who loves us and cares for us and values us more than we can even imagine.

How do we know God values us?  Because He pays attention to us and He acts with faithful love on our behalf.  He generously works for good in our lives and is faithful to us even when we’re not all that faithful to Him.

Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.

Deuteronomy 7:9

In Psalm 40 that we’ve been reading and considering for the past couple of days we read these words that echo this thought:

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.  O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.

Psalm 40:4-5

Thank You God that you love us always and You love us without condition.

Our lives are filled with great beauty and infinite value by You.  You have plans for each of our lives that are meaningful, purposeful, and which will bring us great joy.

Thank You for the good work that You have for each of us to do today that will bless others and give us deep satisfaction.

And thank You that no matter what we face, You are  always with us.  We don’t need to face any problem alone.  Together with You, the creator of the universe and our loving Heavenly Father, any difficulty can be worked out and overcome.  Amen

Let’s live in the joy of God’s valuing us today by showing for us and sticking with us through whatever we face.
