Waiting With A Difference

Monday November 7, 2022

What are we waiting for today?  For some of us it’s simply waiting for transit or for a traffic jam to clear.  We may be waiting to hear from someone we love or for results of a medical test.  We all have things we wait for every day.

The most significant waiting though is the waiting so many of us do to experience being loved and valued or to experience meaning and joy in our daily lives.

Many people, too many people wait every day for someone to notice them and to do something about what is going on in them or around them.  You may be just one of those people.

The wonderful reality is that there is someone who is ready and willing to be there for us – and better still – who is actually able to make a difference.

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.

Psalm 40:1-2

God is ready and willing and able to lift us out of whatever we find ourselves in today.  Maybe it’s a pit of despair.  There are lots of reasons both in world news events and in personal circumstances that could pressure us into places where we feel like we don’t have solutions we need and we despair.

Then there are the mud and mire situations where we’ve been going along fine and then splat – we’ve got dirt on us or even worse, we’re stuck in a deep and muddy place that’s seems to hold us fast like quicksand. Could be the result of our own choices or the choices of others around us.  All we know is that we are in a dark place we don’t want to be in and we don’t know how to get out.

In whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, for whatever reasons, God will turn to us, hear our cry, and act on our behalf if we will cry out to Him.  He will do good things for us.

O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.

Psalm 40:5

Heavenly Father, we are those people today, those who need Your help.  I don’t know how patiently any of us wait for Your help.  I think most of us get to the complaining and despairing bit pretty quickly but thank You that You don’t give up on us.

Even when we are despairing, You hear us when we cry out to You.  We hardly believe You are there or listening, and yet You hear and You respond by bringing the solutions we need and setting us on solid ground.

You don’t even leave us alone at that point but You choose to walk with us, holding us steady as we go.

Thank you for your faithful presence with us today.  Help us to call out to You often and look with faith for Your saving help.  Amen
