Wisdom Speaks Well

There is something pure and lovely about a wise person, speaking helpful advice to us. Something in us recognizes and settles when we hear words of truth and wisdom. We may not always understand how everything works but something in us just knows that this is good and right.

I get that reaction when I read these words:

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace, loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy, and the fruit of good deeds.

It shows no favoritism, and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

James 3:17–18.

Heavenly Father, we are grateful that you are willing to speak to us, and when you speak, we know that we have heard truth and wisdom that brings life and blessing to all of us.

Help us to recognize your voice by the signs we see around it that include harmony and peace, gentleness, and the willingness to yield to others. 

Help us to notice when actions are speaking wisdom. We know they will be full of mercy and goodness, without favoritism, and with sincerity.

Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.

Palm 141:3

We know, Loving God, that if our words are to be pure and bring peace that our hearts will need to be filled with that and that’s why we also pray: 

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.  Psalm 19:14

Fill us with your spirit, so we, in our words and actions, live as wise people  - people who are peacemakers, who plant seeds of peace, and reap a harvest of righteousness. Amen
