Calling Out From Far Away

No matter how far away God seems, we can always call out to Him and He will always respond. 

Please listen, God, and answer my prayer!  I feel hopeless, and I cry out to you from a faraway land.

Lead me to the mighty rock high above me. You are a strong tower, where I am safe from my enemies. 

Let me live with you forever and find protection under your wings. My God, You heard my promises, and you have blessed me, just as you bless everyone who worships you. 

Psalm 61:1-5

It’ so easy to almost unconsciously take back our self-will and wander from the good path God has prepared for us to walk. 

We get bored or tired and stop doing certain things that help us stay strong and before we know it we drift into unhealthy places and begin hanging around with unhealthy.  It’s a slippery slope back to a place we don’t want to go. 

It might not be that we’ve picked up a particular habit or substance again that was harmful in the past.  It’s just that miserable place we can get to when we are running in self-will that makes a mess of our relationships and steals our peace of mind and heart.

There are also other times when we may feel far away from God.  We may have been doing all the right things but tiredness, grief, challenges, pain, and so many other things can dull our conscious awareness of God’s presence. 

God promises to respond when we call to Him even from a depressing place we have drifted to.  He will lead us to a safe harbour.  He will provide protection and support for us .

Our part?  In those dark moments remember that we are not alone, that God is close, as close as a phone call.    God never leaves us and never forsakes us. 

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory. 

Psalm 50:15

Loving Heavenly Father, Thank You for lifting us out of the slimy pit and setting our feet on a rock, giving us a firm place to stand. 

Thank You that we can be secure in You regardless of our circumstances. We may not feel You are close to us but You are and we are going to rely on that.

We’re calling out to You today, asking for Your guidance and support so that we follow You in all our ways.
