RECOVERING MY WHOLE PERSON – SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY

Monday January 9, 2023

The beautiful Ala Moana beach in Hawaii.  It’s not hard to find myself in a beautiful place like this.

But I’m not there today.  I’m sitting here at the breakfast bar between my living room and kitchen trying to put some videos together.

This too is a place where I can find myself because God is with me here.

God created us to live forever, to be secure in His love, to live with curiosity and wonder, and to interact with other people and creation in ways that bless and bring joy to them.

Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”  Matthew 22:37-40

The wise person is the one who recognizes that life is unmanageable on their own and admits the need for a power greater than themselves to live a life that is worth living.

Jesus said He is the way, the truth and the life. How do we make sense of this?

In order to answer these questions, it's important that we understand who we are.  We are more than skin and bones. We are even more than thoughts and feelings.

We are spiritual beings who have a soul and we live in a body.  The interaction between these parts that make up our being has everything to do with living well and finding freedom from whatever issues and difficulties we face.

Jesus said: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.

John 8:32

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:2

Today we are invited to change our way of thinking about life, admit our need for a power greater than ourselves, give our will and our life into the hands of Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth, and the life.

Heavenly Father, we know we are speaking now about our core issues.  We know change must start on the inside and work its way out.

It’s only as You bring new life to our spirit,  that things begin to change in our thinking and feeling.  Only then are we able to choose new ways of behaving that will bless others and give us deep satisfaction.

So help us, Loving God.  Our desire is to be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.  Amen
