Seeing A Path Today That Is Life Giving For Me

We all make our way through life one day at a time.  Some seem to do it without too much effort and others seem to have huge ongoing struggles.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord.  With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 16:8,11

I’ve needed the stabilizing presence of God and His promises over and over again to keep going and to do that with a sense of joy and peace.

These verses remind me of several promises that God makes to me if I will just “keep my eyes always on the Lord.” 

When I was living in deep darkness and couldn’t see a way forward I read these words and God wrote them on my heart. 

I decided to take God at His Word one day at a time, one moment at a time.  When my thoughts were so heavy and my circumstances felt overwhelming I would tell myself these things based on what those verses say:

God You are at my right hand so I will get through.

Even though the pain is overwhelming and the sadness seems to be squeezing life out of me I trust that even today You will show me the path that is life-giving for me.  I receive the joy You are trying to pour into my life right now and will look for the things today that You have put in my path to give me joy.

Lord I bless my friends to know Your presence with them right now in whatever circumstances they are facing.  Give them strength to keep their eyes on You and what You promise and what You are doing for them.  Help them to not look too far ahead into an unknown future but to see Your goodness with them in this moment, in this day. 

One step at a time, focusing on doing just the next right thing, we trust You to show us a path today that is lifegiving, and that will fill us with joy.  It may be a trickle or a flood but we’ll stick with You so You can pour into us all we need. 

We take comfort and find rest in these words:

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23:6
