Unforced Rhythms Of Grace

Tuesday January 17, 2023

Life is a gift.  Healing is a gift.  Am we willing to give Our lives  to God so He can come close and help us enjoy the life we were created for?

Do we even want a life of intimacy with God?  If we did, what would need to change?

I love these verses in the Bible where God shows us how to trade in a lifestyle that is clearly “too much” for us and promises to show us a much better way.

God says:  Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

Matthew 11:28-29

Sometimes because of what life has been up until now, the  road to a stable and healthy life can seem long and hard.   We wonder if we have the energy to do what it takes.

These verses affirm that we don’t have what it takes on our own but also clearly show us the one true way to an enjoyable and settled life -- depending on the love and grace of God rather than on our own effort.

Loving God, We know we can’t wait to come to You until we have sorted out the mess in our lives. We’ll never manage to do that on our own.  So, we invite You, Jesus to come into the mess,  to accompany us, to comfort us, to strengthen us, and to show us the way out.

We’re so grateful that You have explained it so clearly to us when You said:

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Ephesians 2:8-9

While there are choices to make and work to be done, we stand with what You say, God, that only as we walk with You and experience Your unconditional love will we find the desire and strength to keep going when times are tough.

Help us to surrender to You over and over again, and to learn from You this restful lifestyle in the unforced rhythm of Your grace. Amen
