Following Through On Our Commitments

Tuesday February 21, 2023

Anyone who has made an honest attempt at mastering anything knows the hard work that is required.  What gives us encouragement and hope are the role models and examples who show that the required hard work pays off.

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

Romans 15:4

Keeping our relationships free from wreckage and building solid character isn’t accomplished in a day.  We must contribute to that goal every day because it is effort over time that is required to meet long-term goals.

We can know all sorts of things about God.  We can even decide to turn our will and life over to His care.  The real test of our commitment is the follow-through of putting God’s Word into practice, one day at a time.  Some days that  is relatively easy and other days require every bit of strength and commitment we can muster. On those days let’s remember this:

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying.

Romans 12:12

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Galatians 6:9

Loving God, we admit that following through on our commitments isn’t easy.  It doesn’t matter if it’s dealing with character defects, trying to build solid relationships, or just doing a job well.

Help us to let go of our desire for  “quick fix”  and instead to fix our eyes on You.  Today we trust Your promises, God, and the experience strength and hope of those who have gone before us that tell us that, as we follow Your path and do things one step at a time, You will get us to our goal. Amen

What’s the next right thing you and I need to do today to follow through on our commitments.  Let’s give it our best shot and have a great day.
